Semi auto custom builds and accuracy

View attachment 576468View attachment 576466View attachment 576465 Ok so going to try the X22 Challenge Series this weekend so figured I had better clean my rifle since its had 1200 plus rounds since the last cleaning. The bolt was cleaned with the blue shop towel in the pics and thats all that came off the bolt. Used a toothbrush on the bolt face. The DLC coating on this Volquartsen comp bolt is amazing and nothing really seems to build up or stick to it. Feel this is a big part in it being so reliable. Just an FYI

What type of ammo shot?

Jerry

I dont shoot any bulk ammo. The only ammo this bolt has ever seen is Lapua centerX, RWS R 50 and 100 and SK Long Range match. The last 7500 have been a lot of SK Long Range match that shoots extremely well out of my particular gun. Its also showed favourable results in a few shooting friends rifles. Bad news is Im down to the last six bricks and its start the fun again HaHa

I shoot SK and Lapua.. .fouling is rarely around the bolt body but the receiver front near the barrel is full of 'mud'. the bolt face can also get pretty dirty. But that is specific to the oil that is used in this ammo which then mixes with the gases and builds up the fouling. A quick wipe and I am back at it.

the nitriding is a nice touch and has become popular in all types of actions. It would certainly be a positive when competing at ranges where high amounts of dust and dirt covers your action... so running the bolt 'wet' is not ideal.

Jerry

Just finished shooting in the first X22 series shoot in Canada. It was a broad test of shooters skills covering pretty much everything. Two of my builds finished in the top three in the unlimited division. First by Tony Norman and third by some old dude. They were also first and third overall. Feels good to be part of building something successful.View attachment 577559

Well done on the shoot!

I don’t take a pile of target picture cause, well cause. But I shot a few of the most interesting groups today with my 10/22 at 100m. Wind was 10-25 kmph at 3:30. It’s got an IBI barrel and a few other things.

Trying a new lot of Eley biathlon at 16C today, store is holding rest of stock for me!, which isn’t much…

I was able to do this fairly consistently, with a brick of ammo. Square is 1” square daughters made them. I could caliper it if I wanted but only target I saved. Without the wind? I can only speculate.

Them 10/22’s can shoot!

Edit that’s a 10 shot clip.

That group is under an inch and all the dispersion is horizontal. Without that wind, well wow. You’d have definitely had a very small group.Great shooting. Is your IBI barrel standard twist or 1-12. They’re producing some extremely accurate barrels and seeing more of them all the time at the shoots. Buddy of mine has one coming for a bolt rimfire.I’m eager to see the long range results with the 1-12 twist. Keep slinging lead and cool ur daughter makes the great targets for you.

You know how when things seem to be going well, that's when the trouble starts? I should've stopped at 4 shots from 100 yards. Accurate 10/22s are addicting

I biult a 10-22
Dlask Tuff22
Kidd bolt
Kidd single stage trigger
Dlask 16.5” stainless bull barrel

Every part was Dlask or Kidd except…..
Hogue stock
Vortex pro rings (just upgraded to this moring)
Leupold vx3 4.5-14x40AO

Was shooting in the field this morning to sight in after the rig change
Played with cci and federal stuff I had.
3/4” - 1” at 50yrds (from a sled)

I would like to try some match grade stuff if I can find it.
I think I will shoot a few under 1/2” maybe.
Gopher season is just around a corner. That’s where it really shines.

Lucky results happen from time to time.

I shoulda stopped with the first nine. Not with a 10/22, but it was the tenth that screwed up this SK RM group at 100. V:I:

Well a threaded barrel with a muzzle brake and that flyer wouldnt have happend!!! Ooooh Im bettin I just ruffled some feathers.Of course you realize Im teasing. Excellent marksmanship Glenn. Even with the flyer not really too bad.

Haha, yes lucky results happen and accurate 10/22’s are addicting.

Nice shooting everyone.

Thankfully I have a threaded barrel with a tuner… lol

Of course this was the best of the day, why take pictures of the others? Others scored 95,97, 97. A17 target at 50m with center-X

Damn fine shooting there. Can't wait to get out and test my tuner as well.

And don't worry, the picture rotation happens and not much you can do to change it... at least, I have no idea how to change it.

maybe a few wind flags?

Jerry

Haha thanks, appreciate you supplying me with quality parts. Without them a 10/22 would just be another 10/22…

Yeah I could have used wind flags but I was there shooting rimfire while my center fire barrels cooled. After thought if you wish.

I just started to take pictures and get a little more serious about groups as I couldn’t qualify what I was shooting, not like I really care but I am curious.

Thanks again and good shooting all!

I apologize I seen a butterfly and forgot to answer.

I choose that shooting location because of the wind direction. I find perpendicular wind easier to manage, if I choose. Yesterday I choose to not try and adjust for wind but to see how it strung groups.

It’s a standard twist. Yes, I am considering ordering one for one of my bolts as well. But… may build 10/22. This thing rocks.
