Semi auto, short barrel that cycle cci quiet?

I haven’t tried it myself, but Dlask makes an extended charging handle for the 10-22 that has multiple springs so that you can tune your rifle to the ammo that you’re shooting. Entirely possible that it might work. I’d give Dlask a call and find out.

The only semi auto I know that cycles quiets are the Browning SA-22's and their clones.... not really a short barrel but a pretty small gun overall.

It's pretty easy to hand cycle them through a 10/22.

You could try using CCI Quiet Semi-Auto instead of the regular Quiet.

I could not cycle the Quiet Segmented HP’s reliably in a 10/22 even with the subsonic spring from the Dlask Guide Rod Kit mentioned above (see pic below).

I almost got it to work by radiusing the bolt and polishing everything with Scotch-Brite, but ejection was still too weak, with lots of stove piping.

In contrast, the Quiet Semi-Auto cycled so well that I could go back to the standard spring.

Is it easy to find the semi auto quiets?

Does the extra 5grain on the bullet and 125 extra fps make a noticeable difference in the noise level?

Still playing around and testing but almost 100% with my short barrel 10-22
cci quiets,shotshells and shorts
Has got a lightened bolt and have chopped a coule of springs

Volquartsen use to make a bolt called the Firefly for 10/22 style guns that worked but alas no longer available. I’m still looking for one to help out someone on here.

Yes, the semi auto Quiets seem to be in stock — Tenda for example has bricks on sale for $74.99 right now.

The noise difference compared to regular Quiets is there but it’s small — maybe similar to the difference between a 16” and 20” barrel. I have an SPL meter but never bothered to measure it. The subjective test would be to load alternating rounds and A/B them back to back, but I can say that if I’m wearing ears and not paying attention I won’t notice the difference.

I've flirted with this idea too, getting a semi to run on these. At the end of the day, looking at the expense of trial and error + my experience trying to get these types of rounds to shoot accurately out of anything=not something I chose to pursue. I get the appeal though! :)

Closest I've come to a solution I like-recently picked-up a sweet old Remington 572 and bought a brick+ of CB shorts. Such a short pump stroke, smooth-operating gun. Fits a nice pile of those shorts too. Takes me back to when CB LONGs were the only "quieter" option.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback.

I wonder if having a 10/22 bolt lightened would make a difference - maybe milling out some slots along the sides of the bolt, the way TacOrd does 870 bolts and getting it treated with something?

The cheep and easy answer is get a short barrel ( mares leg ) lever action 22 . They will cycle any and all 22 types .no fussing around .

Not sure how that would be cheaper or easier then simply manually working the bolt of an existing 10/22 and treating it like a straight pull bolt action?

I don't think it would be either, but I'd rather cycle a lever gun (or a pump, or any tube mag) than cycle singles through a semi like that ^. I've done it, just loses it's appeal fast.
