Semi-auto shotguns worth it in Canada? given the magazine limits

If your goal is to send as many shells down range as possible without reloading, you want a pump shotgun in Commie Canada. Lots of higher capacity options like the Keltec KSG or multiple options for Turkish boat paddles if you're the "buy six times, cry six times" kinda guy.

Someone needs to make an adapter for a 3.5 inch chamber shotgun that works with mini shells. Would be interesting to see how many mini 12 gauge could fit in a tube that holds 5.9 3.5inch rounds.

If we are talking semi auto It has been my experience that a 3.5" gun will barely run / cycle on anything but heavy 2 3/4" loads so I couldn't imagine mini shells running reliably at all.

I am sure there are outliers out there but I have yet to find a gun that runs all sizes of ammo (2 3/4" / 3" / 3.5") reliably despite what the manufacturer may claim, it seems that the gun is "tuned" for a certain part of the ammo spectrum (2 3/4" + 3" or 3" + 3.5").

YMMV.

If you want a good semi auto shotgun I suggest the Beretta 1301 tactical
They are light and handle/point good and just work
A lot of the cheaper Turkish made ones are hit and miss for quality and functionally
The Benelli M4 is good too but more expensive then the Beretta
You honestly don’t need any more rounds then what they hold
Use a shotgun card velcrod to the side of the reciever and you will have more rounds at the ready
Before the bans when we could get the Derya and MKA 1919 detachable mag guns a known mag loophole was to use the asr 46 pump action mag as it would work in the semi auto and hold 10 rounds, those were the fun days…

By no means economic but the Versa Max from Tacord eats everything and shoots extremely soft due to it's heft and 3.5" chambering

My former restricted Benelli M4 cycled terribly, The VR-66 from TNA thus far has ran excellent for me as a light semi 3" gun

I am very familiar with the VM from Tacord and agree on the soft shooting...... ;)

Mine is a little fussy when it comes to ammo. It likes the 1 1/8oz 3 dram loads on the heavier end of the spectrum. It will mostly run on lighter ammo but I will see an occasional jam. It has never seen a 3" or 3.5" round.

Mine is getting kinda old and it's no shame for it. I have ran it hard for almost 8 years at this point and it would have seen tens of thousands of rounds.

Mine hasn’t had as much usage so wear and tear the design may not be as durable as some others. TNA did make a VR-66 with 3.5” barrrel. That was a neat concept. Not many 3.5” tacticool-competition options. I looked at a Browning Auto 3.5” build but it was gonna be pretty pricey.

Strangely enough I considered the Browning Maxus 2 mostly as they have an autoloader (that works) as standard but the aftermarket support / parts to make it into a race gun for competition was kinda light so I went another route with Beretta.

+1 on the 1301. Thing is dead nuts. #4 buck and youre good to go. Yes you can go 00 but FBI testing would dictate #4 is better, safer, and more controllable in close ranges like that found within a home... other than some big houses even a hallway isnt going to be over 10-15 yds max

As another said, if you need more than it can carry youre either in war or trying to saw through the floor with it...

If you could “squeeze” 8 rounds into your M4…you obviously had replaced the mag tube limiter with a full tube as the original M4 design is 7 in the tube and 1 in the chamber ….

Shell size is another factor. Some are definitely shorter than others.

When I had my M4 (3" chamber of course) it had a (legal) mag extension but it would still only hold 8 total WITH a ghost load (6 in the mag, one on the lifter and one in the chamber).

I cannot remember how much extra room there was with 6 x 2 3/4" rounds in the magazine but maybe with shorter shells a guy could get 7 in there? For sure you wouldn't get two extra in there.
