Semi-auto shotguns worth it in Canada? given the magazine limits

look up ghost loading but not all shotguns can do it and some shotguns are more finnicky to get it working so your mileage may vary
Would you bet your life on that working when you really need it?

I've never even heard of it till now and sure never tried it.

Shotguns are not restricted to 5 rounds like a semi auto centerfire rifle
They certainly are. The law is for all semi-auto centerfire firearms, not just rifles.

Even if there were no mag limits on semi auto shotguns, the weight and bulk would become a nuisance in a hurry.
Depends for what. For 3 gun and other range games or fun plinking a long barrel and big mag are fine. For wilderness carry or self defense not so much.

It works fine in my experience, but it is fiddly and slow to load up. That's why I said was really only any use at the range or in competition. For self defense or wilderness carry I wouldn't go there.

I ghost load every single competition shotgun that it is possible to ghost load, they are absolutely reliable once loaded. Real world self defence type shotgun I’m not worried about ghost loading at all, mainly because I’m running a pump if my life depends on it and I’m not racing a timer 😊
PS- before anyone says semis are just as reliable these days you are probably absolutely correct, just a personal preference if it ever gets to that point

Ghost loading works just fine.

The mechanicals of the gun cant tell the difference as to where the round on the lifter came from (your hand or the magazine).

we know a few things about shotguns and magtubes , we make and sell about 50,000 shotgun mag tubes a year.
The canadian laws are stupid, but as others have posted the law states 5 but not 6 rounds of the largest capasity the gun was designed for .
so as all new shgun are 3 inch or 3.5 inch that does give a few more rounds.

it is fun. my A300 UP can hold 6+1 2.75" shell with S&J extension tube. Get cheap shell caddies on Etsy and practice your duo/ quad loading, you will have a lot of fun.

I have more fun on shotgun than any other centerfire. I started with a supernova then buying an A300 UP, since then, my supernova is screaming for more love.
