Senator intelligence ?

Sorry senator, but your unrealistic ideology does not get anything done on the front line. These are the types of people that sit back in the comfort of their homes and think that ideas and laws can stop an armed individual from storming their countries house of parliament. Don't forget what this country was founded on. We should all be thankful it was only one guy with a lever action rifle, Remember the North Hollywood Shootout? Now is our opportunity to step up and be proactive instead of reactive. Words do not solve everything. Its a shame this country is becoming such a push over.

The senate deserves security measures that reflect its collective importance in our democratic system, and reflects the esteem and prestige that we accord each of its individual senators.

One can only imagine the result on our system of government if, somehow terrorists managed to impede the work that the senate does every day, or heaven forbid intimidate senators into staying home and not working.

Without the those senators, what would we do? How could we go on?

I think my IQ just dropped drastically... these 3 lines... when has armed security ever cost someone who is not committing a crime or atrocity their life? What are these false assumptions mentioned? Maybe I'm not reading into this enough...

Mindboggling to say the least.

stupid, she needs to shake her head. sounds like she has some homicidal tendencies. why does she assume that because there is a gun it will be used for bad...how did she get elected, yikes!

I think she's on to something. Let's start a "Hug a terrorist" campaign.
If you catch a terrorist in the act, just give them a big hug and tell them everything will be OK... and if that doesn't work, take that $hit up a notch...

He knocked the way security was being handled, yet offered nothing to change it for the better.
Glad this man is in a position of power. If there wasn't government jobs, McDonald's would have a lot more employees.

she's a female Parti Quebecois liberal libtard,,,,that's what wrong with her,,,and are affraid of ANYTHING that's not quebecois,,LOL..i'm sure her letter will go far,,LOL...like right in the trash,,,stupid libtard..

Congratulations on letting your prejudice speak in place of your brains, Hootguy. Here's the bio of that senator:

Céline Hervieux-Payette, PC (born April 22, 1941, L'Assomption, Quebec) is the former Leader of the Opposition in the Canadian Senate, and the first woman ever to hold this position.

In the 1970s, Hervieux-Payette served as a political aide to the Quebec government of Premier Robert Bourassa. She also served as an administrator, as president and commissioner of the Le Gardeur School Board, and director of public relations for Steinberg Inc., a Quebec grocery and department store business.

Hervieux-Payette was first elected to the Canadian House of Commons in the 1979 election as the Liberal Member of Parliament for Mercier. She was re-elected in the 1980 election, and became parliamentary secretary to the Solicitor General of Canada. In 1983, she was appointed by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau to the Canadian Cabinet as Minister of State (Fitness and Amateur Sport). She then served as Minister of State (Youth) from January to June 1984.

She was not appointed to the Cabinet of John Turner who succeeded Trudeau as Liberal leader and prime minister in June 1984. She stood as a candidate in the 1984 election, but was defeated.

She returned to the private sector and served as vice-president, business ventures at the SNC Group, an engineering and manufacturing firm, from 1985 to 1989. From 1991 to 1995, she was Vice-President, Regulatory and Legal Affairs for Fonorola Inc., a telecommunications firm. She has been counsellor for Fasken Martineau DuMoulin since 1995.

Hervieux-Payette attempted to re-enter the House of Commons in the 1988 and 1993 elections but was defeated in both attempts. In 1995, she returned to Parliament when she was appointed to the Canadian Senate by Jean Chrétien. She is expected to remain in the Senate until she reaches the mandatory retirement age of 75 in 2016.

She is definitely a liberal retard. Not a Parti Québécois one, however.

Funny that so many of you did not recognize "Céline" as a woman's name, too. Read the report attentively before foaming at the mouth, have you? f:P:2:

Nice to see a senator with an IQ less than a rock!

From Wikipedia

Hervieux-Payette became involved in controversy in March 2006 when she responded to an American couple's letter to all Canadian Senators protesting the annual seal hunt in Newfoundland. The American, Anne McLellan, told Canadian television channel, CTV Television Network, that herfamily cancelled plans to vacation in Canada, describing the seal hunt as "appalling".

In her responding letter, Hervieux-Payette wrote that what she finds horrible is "the daily massacre of innocent people in Iraq, the execution of prisoners – mainly blacks – in American prisons, the massive sale of handguns to Americans, and the destabilization of the entire world by the American government's aggressive foreign policy, etc."

She later clarified her remarks, arguing that Americans should worry about their own country's behaviour before pointing fingers at other nations. Bill Graham, leader of the Liberal official opposition, subsequently issued a statement saying that the letter "reflect her personal opinions and not those of the Liberal Party of Canada."[1]

On April 23, 2009, Hervieux-Payette unveiled the Universal Declaration on the Ethical Harvest of Seals, seeking support from countries, NGO's and scientists to establish universal standards on seal harvest.

Make sure you vote guy's. We all have some disagreements with Steve. BUT if Justin or Thomas ever get a majority or a coalition... Kiss it all goodbye....... Every vote DOES count...
Keep a eye on Alberta. Usually the Left moves fast to impose their agenda....

On the surface the letter may seem as the senseless ramblings of a senile old woman, but perhaps it's her way of advocating for a different approach to security.
Having visible, heavily armed uniformed officers present is a deterrent to the casual, spontaneous doer of evil or highjinks, but it's also an admission that there's a problem or threat that the powers that be have failed to foil.

Perhaps moving to a less visible, yet effective security force would be more appropriate?

Guards disguised as bushes or hiding in trash cans would be there in an instant should trouble visit the hill.
The lack of visible force would lull all who visit parliament into the comfortable idea that Ottawa is so safe they don't even have security.

Yes, YES. I agree. What we need is Agent 44 or Agent 13 re-activated from their retirement off Get Smart. That's the ticket. They'll covertly keep an eye on everything for us, and report on any suspicious shenanigans, and make Parliament Hill safe again. Maybe we should send their resumes to the honourable senator for her review to hire them?
