Service CQB @ Borden 19 Sep (warning, pic intensive!)

Awesome match! Like always the hosts were great and things went smoothly.

Hell, everyone and their dog came to the match.

:D

tip of the day: practice your reloads.

I worked on mine after the CQB clinic in July but I stopped and it showed this weekend.

Great day.. the best part of shooting at borden besides the great people, was the "atmosphere"... nothing gets you into the zone better than lots of background gunfire and griffin choppers buzzing the range.. cant wait for the next shoot.. meanwhile I'll practice reloading my SKS..

anyways here's some more pics...

All I can say is every time I shot with Tim and Barny it was always tremendous fun and an action packed day. They really deserve a big high five for all the work to put things like this together. Thanks guys.

I regret that I missed out on the last two sessions but I hope that I’ll manage to get out for the future ones.

Life's too short & fun like this doesn't come along every day.

Cheers
Lawrence

Shoot the gun empty, then reload?
Yep, the trick was doing it fast enough to still get all your shots off on both targets you had to engage.

During the transitions, four mags are only loaded to 5 each, but you would have to double tap each target, then move up. After 3 transitions you'd have should shot all 20 rds in your 4 mags. After the 2nd move, you're changing the mag lightening fast between the double taps and targets. Gotta be seriously practiced and on the ball to do that and get your shots off and score full points on the target.

Sort of. ;)

There's some tricks to learn which make your shooting go smoothly. For example, 5 rounds in a magazine, you must put two rounds downrange into 2 separate targets, you must do this a total of 5 times, each exposure of the targets lasts 4 seconds (so roughly 2 seconds on each target). So, 10 rounds in all, only a few seconds between exposures.
So, do you go "bang bang" "bang bang" "bang" change mags "bang", or do you go "bang bang" "bang bang" change mags "bang bang" ;)

(Yes, I realize that was only 6 bangs, I just didn't want to put "bang bang" in 4 more times... )

Get what I'm sayin? There's as much mental stuff as physical stuff going on at these matches. You have to keep count of your rounds so you save time during exposures, you have to move, then shoot a number of rounds off in very few seconds.. Stuff like that. It can be fun! :)

I found the moving then getting accurate rounds off with the pistol very challenging. Pistols are not a forte of mine :) Most of the time I just couldn't get the second magazine in and fire off the shots in time before the STOP call.

HOw much time between exposures an at what distance, 2 sec per target including draw on first pair, or just 2 sec? 4 sec per exposure would be fairly challenging at 30m.

I believe it was 4 per exposure, with two targets. Wasn't hard to get the shots off, but was tricky to do it with any form of precission after doing it pretty much all afternoon. (especially with my 20" HBar. Made me a bit envious of the 14.5 and under barrels :) )
