Service Rifle Calgary

Yep, the APRA is a big joke. Run by a bunch of FUDDS. They refuse to recognize service rifle, yet the DCRA gets pissy at interprovincial membership? What's the big deal if I want to buy a BCRA membership to shoot SR in BC? Pain in my ass because I live in Alberta... And thanks to the idiot CFO, the new " super range " in Edson is totally non match friendly. Unless you like to lay on a wooden bench and crank plates all day.

If the DCRA has a problem with you buying a BCRA membership to shoot SR, tell them to mandate that the APRA provide SR. Otherwise tell them to go jump in the lake (the big one west of BC)

If you are member of a PRA, you are a member of the DCRA. They are not so flush with members that they should be turning anybody away from joining any PRA.

Re the APRA, they don't hold matches. It is not affiliated with the DCRA anymore (yes I know it is still on their webpage in spite of DCRA knowing full well the APRA is no longer representing the DCRA in Alberta). The APRA is a landlord and leaseholder for the ranges on Homestead road. The different range Stewards hold matches. It has been this way for 3 maybe going on 4 years now. BTSA, Rosebud, Swiss Club, AFRA are the range Stewards.

Getting pissed off with APRA won't do a thing, (if by chance you haven't figured that out by now!). You guys are all barking up the wrong tree.

It is a real shame the DCRA won't get off their butts and appoint a new Alberta affiliate. At this rate there never will be a proper DCRA affiliate in Alberta and I will still be posting this same message in another 3-4 years.

That's the thing though. An APRA membership is way too expensive to buy when they refuse to offer or support my shooting sport (service rifle) . There are no APRA sanctioned SR matches in Alberta. Every year I go to Chilliwack to shoot the provincials, I get the gears from Bob about not being a member of the APRA and am only able to buy the limited competitive membership for the BCRA.

Yes, I agree with you whole heartedly! What makes even less sense is that they have funds available for SR as well as a bunch of targets, and other supplies. Pretty sure the DCRA would like to hear about that...

In business if you are not growing you are dead. Decades ago the PRAs and DCRA decided to tread water, the end result is..........well craptastic.

That said if I/the BCRA sold our souls to 3Div HQ, did a lot of begging and could book Wainwright for a weekend competition in May 2015 how many shooters could we get?

At least 10 that I know of. Just need a date in case we need to book days off. That would be awesome!

If the APRA does not represent the provincial rifle body (even if just on paper) it does not have a compelling reason to maintain the lease hold on Homestead....

Isn't the province the landlord? Or technically the owner? I don't know the mechanics of the whole lease/deal.

It is Public Crown Land leased to the APRA.

There are numerous conditions attached to the maintenance of the lease...of which a big one off the top of my head is:
- maintaining a Public range

If it was shown to the province (SRD in this case) that the APRA has reneged on allowing members of the public to join, then I suspect they would have some explaining to do. I know of one case where a past CSRA member was denied membership to the BTSA for the simple fact he previously had a CSRA membership.

Most shooters don't have the appetite for dealing with this type of deception though so it ends up the few bullies within the club steam role the majority and they either roll over and take it or up and leave.

In all fairness Mike, you do know that the APRA maintains the public rifle and shotgun ranges at Homestead.

So why is it that if I buy an APRA membership, I have to pay a $100 Homestead maintenance fee? Until they offer service rifle, I'll keep giving money to the BCRA and spending boat loads of cash in BC.
