Service Rifle Calgary

CDTSA club has been putting on quasi service rifle matches held at the Milo range. I believe the CDTSA SR matches are open to non-club members. Please contact CDTSA directly for confirmation.

My understanding is, the new range down south/Taber area is also supporting the service rifle discipline. Kudos to them.

CDTSA held matches at Milo this last year, but if I understand it correctly the format didn't change much, just the distances shot.
I meant to attend most of them, but it didn't work out in the cards.
Attendance fell off to a point where they cancelled the last match due to lack of interest.

So now it is being moved back to Shepard to bring attendance back up with the old format:(

It would seem there is very little appetite within the club to shoot service conditions, and all of the people that talk about coming out (me included - at least last year) are full of hot air.

Hopefully Taber has much better success.

CQB at Milo looks promising and the one match held in the fall had somewhat OK attendance, but should/could improve a whole bunch this year.

All of those AR owners need to understand when the last bans took place with C68, the AR was spared the prohibited status due to use of them in SR competitions and the actions of the DCRA and others who gave expert testimony to save them from the chopping block. Without that continued support of competition use, the likelyhood of them going the way of the 12.x grows.

I actually joined CDTSA this year to do some service rifle. I'm less enthused with IDPA as the rules get more and more complex. Did 3 gun up at Spruce until.. well... the usual thing that happens to all gun sports in Canada. See you there Belt...

Forget the APRA - it will never happen.

Honestly, I think a group out of Edmonton - close to Base, and perhaps affiliated with, or co-run with a group from Wainwright has the best chance of taking on SR, and the PRA designation.

A number of CQB matches are slated for Milo which is promising.

New CDTSA schedule is updated on the webpage now.

Can't stress enough, for matches to continue, there has to be a certain level of interest and volunteer help.

CDTSA puts on the cheapest matches in Alberta, that I'm aware of. It's done for the shooting sports and culture. They are not profit generating.

Show up for events. Even if you haven't shot one, there will be experienced people there to help and guide you. It's not intimating at all.

I just advise showing up early, mention it to the match director that you are new and they will set you up.

Have fun.

New Service Rifle rules up
New Classes
Changed round count
Changed distances
Still happening at Milo

What distance is being shot? The website indicates only two relays of each for stock and modified and one relay for vintage - can I assume this would change depending on demand?

Yea its a couple min from Mcgregor lake.

As for distance, I can tell you it is all getting shot on range 1. Had a lot of......"Seasoned" guys have issues with seeing the targets on range 2. So it will be more like the shepard matches.

That's too bad.
I think it would be cool to run a sudo DCRA course of fire out there, but that would only work if there is buy-in from the members, club, etc.
Don't get me wrong, the mil. Shoot the club puts on is still fun, but it is pedestrian in comparison.
