Setting Up AR For A Training Course

check out the cadex vert grip, i havent taken any courses, but i really like how the grip feels.
its got finger grooves in it for your fingers, its nice and small, and even has a compartment in it for 1x 123 battery (although i dont understand the single piece of Velcro in it..?)

heres mine, sounds similar to some suggestions on here.
some things i dont like about my setup:
sling - its the magpul ms2.. really dont like it. material is junk. ill be replacing it with a vicars sling once i decide on mounting.
grip - i got the BCM grip and ya its really nice, but i like the magpul miad with large backstrap better (got 1 coming)..i dont have big hands (medium gloves) but i like fatter grips, even my glock has the +1 grip on it and my sigs have hogue's

im really happy with this stock, cheek position is very consistent. i know some people like a thinner ctr but not me. personal opinion, ive tried both and this is my choice.
ill be grabbing a ctr and a str eventually, but ive got a ergo on the way.

I shot almost 3000 rounds in a HSP rifle course maybe 4 months ago.

My advice is to get setup with a MS3, or something else you can easily "clip in" to make it two point. You will be standing around and listening a lot.

Also bring tools for your rifle. If your castle nut isn't stakes, bring the wrench to tighten it. I had to lend mine to two people during the course.

But mostly, I wouldn't put anything on your rifle other than an optic. Learn to shoot it, see where your body wants to interface with it and work around that, especially if you haven't put a lot of rounds through your rifle.

This is what I brought to my course (6 days) Only thing not pictured is the sling attachment (http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG502/46)

Sling mounts here :)

A number of guys run the Rail Mounted sling loop, but even more use the Push Button and Cadex Sling Mount Small due to the quick disconnect.

Since your using an NEA and M&P I'd suggest the Push Button and Cadex Sling Mount Small. Leave the Cadex mount on the M&P and with the push button on the sling you can quickly plug into the NEA or the M&P on the front.

Thanx Darren.

What I have on the list is the following...........

3x slings.
Push button detach x3
I did have a Gear Sector rail mount on the list but its only 1" wide. Now have the Cadex Sling mount (small).

The Norinco and the M&P have he standard telescoping but stock on them. They both have a sling mount on the very bottom of the butt. They also have a slot a little higher up. Not sure what the best option is..............

Max Owner:

All this fine kit has to work with you and your comfort level. Ensure that you can operate/adjust/tweak/elongate/shorten with eyes elsewhere (try closed first) or by feel over and over again. It's gotta work FOR you once you get on the line and begin loosing boolits at the targets.

Sounds like you are well on your way. After the course, evolve your gear at local matches or practices and then tweak HOW the kit works for you and your game. Often I will need about 3 or 4 practice sessions to feel comfortable with a grip/sling/ rear sight/ QD sling device, AFG , MIAD, CTR, or whatever goods your are running (maybe for the first time).

Like I taught my paintball teams; evolve your gear/game/skills ! It's all good. Have fun. Git ready fer the M14 clinic this July, more and more fun learning. :)

Cheers,
Barney

I'm writing an article about what you need to do with your gun prior to arrival at a course and once you arrive. It should address most of your questions.

I'll have it done by this weekend and it will be on our website, FB page and maybe on here.
