Actually.
"Finned" slugs are Foster/Brenneke style and should be shot out of a smooth bore barrel so that the "fins"/rifling on the slug will create the spin and thereby accuracy.

Sabot slugs are for use in fully rifled barrles (or rifle chokes) to obtain accuracy.

Use of Foster style slugs in a fully rifled barrel = lots of lead streamers in the grooves.
Use of Sabots in smoothbores = minimal spin of the slug.

Dave L for my money it would be a Mossberg 500. Got one from SIR in Winnipeg with the 28 inch barrel and a rifled 24 incher as well for under 400 bucks does everything my Barretta AL 2 won't and then some Great gun and I have over 1000 rounds through it with out any problems to date. Awesome action and just feels right in my hands.

My 2 cents.
 
I would have voted for the 870, except Remington's done a bang-up job at sucking lately, or so I gather...so I would recommend going for an older 870 on the EE here...

With a 2500 budget, I'd get an 870, a clay gun (whichever fits you best...), club fees and LOTS of ammo.

I'm pretty glad I actually didn't have to go with a ten gauge. While my inner teenager (wait... inner?! Hold on a sec, I am a teenager!) sorta throwing a temper tantrum at not having that extra muscle, logistics concerned I'm glad I can go with a twelve gauge.

I'm still waiting on my PAL, and I'm going to be leaving the house in September, so it might be a while before I can get anything though, so I might miss out on Wrong Way's gun. :(.

But does anyone know - can anyone tell me for certain - if I can remove the stock mount on the M4 Super 90 and just get a pistol grip all on its own? (but still be able to reattach the stock later, of course)

the 870 is a fine and reliable gun, but if you carry it arowd all day you will start to look like ARNOOLD (I'll be back). The Benelli is a lot lighter and will last a lifetime or 2

870 Express all the way. But get the super magnum with the 3 1/2 chamber, it is just a few bucks more.
awesome shotgun, I own the synthetic version myself and I am very pleased with it.

Brought one home last week as a first shotgun. Paid $550 for it and it comes with 3 chokes, full camo and a 26" barrel. Put over 50 rounds through it in my buddies back yard before returning to the city and it shoots great if you're not worried about a little recoil.(not so bad until you start shooting 3 1/2" loads:eek: )

My buddy bought the extrema II the same day and was a steal at $1450 out the door. Even came with kick off plate. It still kicks you back just as far but does a lot more smoothly.

The Nova is a nice gun. But I will stick with the 870. Accessories by the thousands, many barrel choices and way cheaper to outfit the way you want it.
