The only barrels I can remember people replacing are from bulging due to a squib, even on open division guns that have been used for a dozen years or more its usually the slide to frame fit or cracks in the frame that retires them and not the barrel. Even alloy frame guns like the Beretta can go a long time, I remember reading an article where Ben Stoeger has a 92 with a 100,000 thru it that is missing a piece out of the frame and it still groups. If you are using it for competition swap your springs on a regular basis, a modern firearm should out last the average shooter if cared for properly.
