I purchased my Shadow System MR918L elite last March brand new from my local gun store. It has been flawless and I have shot 2226 rounds through it consisting of 115 and 124 grain factory ammo.
On Friday, I went to the range and took my Shadow System MR918L elite equipped with my Streamlight TLR-8 attached to the bottom accessory rail. I took my first two shots without incident and then on my 3rd shot the gun went bang and immediately my Streamlight fell to the floor. When I picked up the Streamlight, I immediately noticed that the bottom accessory rail of the Shadow System MR918 L had broken off directly at the front portion of the notch. It broke in a half moon shape. I checked the firearm out and it was still operational. I shot a total of 50 additional rounds without this portion of the gun without any issues. I am unable to properly secure my light to the gun due to the missing piece.
I contacted Shadow Systems by phone on Friday and they asked me to send a brief explanation and photos by email. They were very nice to deal with. Due to the fact that they are in the US and we are in Canada, the rep was unable to tell me how the frame would get looked at until he spoke with the other members of his team. He stated that someone would get back to this week.
I have attached pictures for you all to look at. I really can't imagine the Streamlight attachment screw could exert that much pressure to break a polymer frame. I tighten the screw with a coin so I have to rule out over-torqueing. The gun has never been dropped or abused.
Black Box Customs sell stripped down MR918L frame so I can always purchase a new one for around 300.00 but I am hoping that Shadow Systems come through for me. With all the crazy things going on in my life this is just an annoyance and I still recommend their product. I will keep you all posted.
