Sharing one scope between guns

So I am planning on purchasing a new hunting rifle and scope to go along with it. I want to invest in good optics for this gun, so I am leaning towards getting a swarovski Z3. Right now most of my hunting rifles have bushnell elite 4200's on them. I have a feeling that if I have one gun with a swarovski, I won't want to use any other gun with the bushnell's. Yet I can't afford to outfit every gun with such high quality glass. Does anyone out there swap one high quality scope around to different guns, instead of settling for a great scope on one and decent scopes on the rest? Does it become too much of a hassle? In practicality it seems like a great cost effective option to afford good quality.

I am a bit of a frugalist.
One scope per firearm.
I, for some reason can't justify spending the sort of
loot one would pay for a wedding ring.
Mid road for me and one day when I fully awake to the
greatness of Looeypull, I may bite the bullet.
Then again, Zwarski would probably fit the bill.

Useless idea IMHO.

You would have to re-zero it every time, and likely put a few different ring marks in different spots as well.

Your 4200's will appear just as good as they used to, and work just fine after using the Swarovski.

I'd rather use them then have to swap, and rezero your scope every time!!!

My view is that each rifle should have a scope. After spending (wasting) a lot of $ on inadequate glass I came to the conclusion quite some time ago that buying the best glass you can afford makes sense.

Which a quick detach mount, its feasible.

You'd really have to setup a 100y range on or near your property though, otherwise re-zeroing would be annoying.

If you have the same base and do not touch the rings and a scope with reliable adjustments. It shouldn't be a issue. Write down the zeros before you move it etc. But you may end up with a scope that is level on one gun and not the other.

I was in the same boat as you. Im not rich by any means and wanted 1 good varmint scope to run on my .204 and .243. I bought a 6.5-20 Conquest and after using it...... I cant believe I used junky Bushnells and lower end Vortex's. Its been about three weeks and I just ordered another Conquest in 3.5-10 z600 for my .243 but I plan on throwing it on my .270 wsm a month before deer season to practice and use then it will go back on the .243 for winter coyotes.
So I guess to answer you`re question Im gonna do the swap thing till I can get enough scratch to buy great glass on all my guns. Its a bit of a pain but better then using mediocre glass.

i wouldn't be bothered switching. i zero for a particular load and rarely change the settings.due to the volume of rifles i use a couple of 3200, a few vx1, mostly vx11 and one minox. if i ever got down the three or four rifles they would all wear german glass.

Try a Leupold.

When you try a Leupold, the bushnells will have to move over to make room for the conqests

Ive owned many Leupolds in the past, they're OK but I dont like the changing eye relief. I really like the constant eye relief of the the Zeiss and find the Conquests have better glass then the VX-III's. I also find the Zeiss reticles are better and the ballistic program to match your load with your reticle is bang on.
To each there own though ;)

Cheers!!
