Anyone belong to Sharon Gun Club,

I had a few questions about joining. I am a student under 23 so as far as I understand I would only pay student fees and would NOT have to buy a share? Or would I need to find an adult to sponsor me?

As well, if joining in the middle of the year like May would I get a discounted rate or pay for an entire year even though fees are collected for July-July?

AFAIK, student rates are only available to associate members. Unless you have a share holding parent, you'd need your own.

As for pro-rating, my guess is that if you're joining in May you'd be paying 14/12ths a years membership.

Happy to be wrong on this.

I'm interested in some info as well - please share if there are any pms on this.

I'm down the road from Sharon. I'm thinking of joining Uxbridge Shooting Sports for skeet but they don't have rifle and pistol ranges. I'm considering of joining another club as well for rifles and pistols (this is gonna get expensive!).

Anyone know what the cost is of a share at Sharon? I assume this is in addition to the regular membership fee?

Membership fee is $450 a year on top of the cost of a share. I have no clue what the going rate is for a share right now. I paid $1000 for mine 5 or 6 years ago, but I think you'd be extremely lucky to get one for that.

Rusty can you speak to if students need a share or a sponsor?

Everyone needs a share, unless you have a Dad/Mom who has one, then I think you can co-share theirs....It doesn't concern me so I never paid much attention, but those shares are few and far between and can run $1700 or more these days...I was fortunate to pick one up for $1100 some years ago....

And yes, they have a pro-rated system....

It's a matter of supply and demand and many clubs now have membership caps....You can check out Sharons bulletin board Saturday morning's...If anyone has a share to sell, it's usually posted, but get there very early...Even then, the board has been bare for a awhile....

Sorry....

P.S. If you have rich parents and/or have a very large trust fund, I can start adoption precedures....:D
(Then, maybe, I can afford a Dillon 1050 reload system like Canuck 223 has :))

lmao I wish! Thanks for the info, yeah I have looked at every club and cannot find one affordable for a student. Colby club in waterloo is the most affordable, yet far from me, oh well, I will keep trying. thanks!

Gulp!

What am I missing? Other than proximity to my home (it's literally down the road), what does Sharon have to offer over clubs like Barrie or Oshawa that would make it worthwhile to sink in over $1000 for a share?

I was at Sharon last week and there were at least two notes on the bulletin board in the clubhouse saying that the poster was willing to pay $2500+ for a share!

Sharon does have excellent outdoor facilities and they have handled the finance's very well...But, one should not look at a share as something not at all worthwhile.....Look at it this way: many clubs charge an "initiation fee" when you join which can cost, perhaps, $400-500...If you leave the club years later, that money is lost to you...But a Sharon "share" still is something you can sell and recover some of your money, if not all of it, and today that can mean making a hefty profit :D....

:eek::eek:

I haven't been at the clubhouse since the fall, but someone did tell me that they expected a share price to hit mid $2000 or higher by spring....

Airwolf I am from Newmarket as well, do I have any other options seeing as I do not have 2000$ lol, I heard it is a great club! but..

Guessing our next bet is Orillia for rifles and handguns. Aurora for handguns. Oshawa (if they are taking new members) for rifles and handguns. Target Sports / Grange for handguns. They seem to suggest you can shoot rifles there too with their supplied 'frangible' ammunition.

We are rated for and authorized to shoot firearms up to .500 AE (very big) and 12ga Shotguns.

We also are authorized by the Ontario Chief Firearms Officer (CFO) to allow shooters to shoot .223 and .308 Winchester rifles as long as they use our supplied frangible ammunition.

That said, the target can be at most 25 meters out and if I wanted to practise with a rifle I think I'd want 100-300 yards.

I also belong to the Aurora Gun Club (instructor there), which is an indoor range...It's a good club but it's also backlogged with people trying to join...Only a 15 minute drive and you can shoot alone....You can drop by Thursday evenings after 7pm since there are always members of the Executive on hand to answer all your questions....

Barrie is about 45 minutes away and is a good indoor/outdoor club, now made even better by the fact that just allowed people to shoot alone....

Islington is an outdoor club about 40 minutes away and advertizes itself as a "Sportsmans" club (They have a fish pond, maple sugar making facilities archery trials)....A couple of bad range Nazis there and they have a membership cap, which means about a year to get in.....

Pickings are slim...I believe that you go to he CSSA website and get a list of other clubs that are nearby...

Good hunting.....:)

Most places have a "hefty" fee (of course hefty depends on your pocket pocketbook)....

Yeah It is not really hefty when you look at the facilities and services you are getting, but for my pocket book unfortunately it is. Does aurora or Sharon allow day passes, visitors or have specific open night? Because that would just be amazing!
