On Saturday April 8th, there will be an IDPA-style 3-gun match on Range 1 at the Sharon Gun Club.

3-Guns - rifle, shotgun, handgun - centerfire calibers - pistol caliber rifles welcome.

All on one stage.

IDPA concealment and cover rules.

10 AM to 3 PM

The match is shot on a first come first served basis (like a regular Sharon IDPA or IPSC match), with the last shooter going at 3 PM. Like a regular Sharon IDPA/IPSC match you put your name down for a slot when you get there.

Round count:

20 rifle
10 shot 2 slugs
24 handgun

Non members welcome

Match Fee $10

Note: IPSC or PPC holster qualification required

Here is a map at the clubs website:

You will find the IDPA rule book here:

http://www.idpa.com/

For this match the main IDPA-style points are:

- the pistol and all your ammo (rifle, handgun, shot and slugs) is on your person concealed under a coat.
- You shoot with 50% of your upper body behind cover. A range rule requires that the shotgun shot targets (poppers/plates) be engaged from at least 10 yards or you are DQ'd. Aside from these shot targets, the pistol or rifle targets can be shot on the move if the course of fire permits it. Stopping to shoot without cover gives a procedural for each shot, but the RO will yell out COVER to remind you!
- Only drop empty mags. Each mag left behind with ammo gives you a procedural.
- There are no IPSC style walk-throughs. The course of fire will be explained and you can see the set up from the start point - that is it.

Can IPSC 3 gunners shoot this match ?

Of course - though if they stand out from cover when they shoot, precedurals will apply. Also it is all one stage - for me, that is what gets the adrenaline going! IPSC-sanctioned 3 gun matches dont allow the 3 guns in one stage.

I will likely score the match using the IPSC scoring method as the IDPA scoring method does not work well for long field course - a miss in IPDA when the time is 200 seconds is not much of a penaty!

We haven't had enough competiors in the past to make a sign up sheet worthwhile - so just show up and shoot first come first served.

Help is great to have. I will be setting up the stage on the Friday night after work and putting up the targets on Saturday morning between 9 and 10. Extra help scoring patching setting steel during the match is great too.

Looking forward to the shoot!
Not sure that IDPA with IPSC rules will work, but shooters will go with any rules if they get to put lead down range. :D

Hey

You know, the big D does stand for "defensive".

As soon as you say Field Course, it is no longer IDPA

An IDPA senario must be plausable, and no more then 18 rounds, otherwise your shooting IPSC.

One of the best things about IDPA is the scoring, and you want to ignore it.

Hey guys, the comment was in jest! :D :D :D
I am just really pleased that people like Lou are willing to offer their personal time and energy to have this type of shoot.
They can call it anything they want, score it any way they want.
Thanks to Lou and his crew (of not many) for their work and effort.

OK, IDPA field course (what is the correct terminology) has a max of 18 rounds.

This is a 3-gun match. For me the spirit of IDPA is the requirement for concealment and cover. I am not practising for CCW as I know we will never have that in Canada.

3 guns at 18 rounds each would allow for 54 rounds. I've got a total of 56 rounds planed, picking up a few extra for the rifle and pistol to make up for the fewer shotgun shells.

I can drop a few rounds if some one feels hard done by shooting extra handgun and rifle rounds!

Are there IDPA 3-guns in the US? I don't know. Maybe someone can post a link showing how they do them.

Are you allowed to wear "tactical" gear?

Why I dont have any, it is fine with me.

Load bearing vests are quite often seen at 3-gun match.

I have everything on a belt and I use suspenders to hold the belt up.

Hey, I don't give a flying "F" what you call it & how you score it !

If I'm holster qualified & I'm permitted to come out and shoot 3 guns,
at 18 rounds per stage or 100 rounds per stage, I'm just a blast'n
until someone says STOP :)

so maybe it is or it's not a sanctioned match, who cares, I prefer it not to be a sanctioned match, this way we can follow all the safety rules, but loosen up on the other rules ;) & have a great shoot'n time.
If anyone is to anal to just enjoy the shoot that someone is going thru their time to set up, than just don't show up ! or give me your gun & I'll shoot it for ya :p :D
