Sheep Rifle

It'll flatten your trajectory, but it will also increase wind drift with lighter bullets. Have you seen the kind of BC's that 125gr 30cal bullets have?

Non-starter in hunting ranges in my opinion. Take the .308 Win with the 125gr Accubond (BC .366) vs the 180 Accubond (BC .507), total wind drift difference in 10mph at 300? Less than 1/2". In the mountains I've found it easier to work with lighter bullets at higher speeds, and they're plenty for sheep and goats.

Here is one training method I use. I only practice long range with my rifles and bow. When I grab my bow to fling a few arrows in the yard. I set up at 80 yards. And shoot like 40 to 50 arrows at that distance. I will then maybe fire 2 or 3 at 30 yards before I call it a day. Same with my rifles. I set up at like 700-800 yards. Shoot all day. Then spend 10 or so bullets on 100 yards.

By doing the long range over and over. When I see a deer at 40 yards with my bow. Psychologically it feels like point blank. And same with rifle. I see a running coyote in my scope at 180 yards and it feels like he's 50' away because my eye is so trained to see tiny targets so far away. And once you get good at the long ranges, your confidence sky rockets for the shorter ranges.

To me sounds like you have a confidence issue. And that will ruin your hunt. Because when that moment comes, the money your spending, the hype of a sheep hunt etc. Your anxiety will be 1000 times worse. Get on the range. Shoot 300 rounds at long range before going. Then you will be ready !!!!! Good luck. And I hate you I'm so jealous lol

On my stone sheep hunt the Outfitter told me no shots beyond 300 yards. You don't want to wound a Bighorn Ram. Remember it's not like shooting off a bench.

talking about sheep shape ...

h t t p ://www.wildsheep.org/pdf/six_minute_hill.pdf

a very good exercise ...

we were doing the same at the army with shooting every two climbs ...

Get yourself a pair of Miendl mountain boots. ($500.) I got mine from AJ Brooks in Vancouver. Your boots are the most important thing you'll take on a sheep hunt. I walked over 30 kms the first day, (confirmed on GE) on my first sheep hunt in the NWT. Those boots felt some good in the morning when every muscle in your body is sore.

I just put my full pack and Kimber on the scale I'm sitting at 21.5 lbs toltal and Ther is room for 14 day hunt Worth of food

The Kimber with Leopold scope is 5.5 lbs and a rifle that light I would pack anytime any wear vary happy

Whoa! Dude... that could lead to a bar fight.

I'm going solo on my hunt packing light for a solo Mountain hunt is just as much about safety as it is about convenient
It's a lot safer having a light weight gear over a heavy gear I use to pack over 50 lbs on a overnight trip pack, camp gear, and rifle
A 30 lbs in gear ,rifle and two weeks of food is pretty awesome

Thanks

Its, not hard to do, just how uncomfortable you want to be and how much risk you want to assume.

That's right every thing I got I pick up on EE aswell
Sum of the equipment I'm happy with like the kimber ,seek outside tent , Life straw , titanium pot,
Binoculars Are heavier then I like but there zeiss and figerd this was a good place to pack extra waight for quality

Get some 130gr ttsx and use the .308.

I just picked up 10 boxes of the .30 cal 130 TTSX bullets to flatten out my .308...

I also just bought a Ruger KM77 MKII SS in 7mm WSM... finding brass proved challenging, so I ended up buying a case of Winchester Power Max Bonded 150 grain factory loads... the box claims 3200 fps with the 150's... sounds like good sheep/goat medicine...

If a guy is careful and keep a close eye on EE you don't need to spend a wack of money for a basic setup it's kind of fun process to go through

The biggest weight saving is in
Hunting pack
Tent
Sleeping bag and sleeping mat
Cooking stove and pot
Rifle and scope
Besides mountain hunting It a good setup for any hike in and hunt
The rifle i only saved about 2 lbs Compar to my basics kit hunting pack wear I saved 5lbs tent I saved 4lbs sleeping bag I saved 3.5
I'm not all that impress with the Kuiu gear I will probly leave the Kuiu clothing at home it just seems cheaply made and over price
