Elf owl looks cooler but the unique alpine would be more comfortable to shoot.

It’s hard to describe how loud these short barrels are. And a 12” barrel loses about 300 fps muzzle velocity over what it says on the box.

Have you considered an sig cross? 16” and folds, pretty handy. Only 200 fps less

Or get a tikka compact or youth model

I'm not to worried about the FPS loss as I'm going to keep it inside of 300M and I'm starting with hunting deer. (White tail / mule)

I looked at the Sig cross but they have reliability issues. I checked out the BCL but they aren't very accurate. Also thought about the troy par / MRA maverick but I'm set on a traditional bolt action.

I'd really like something with a pistol grip and to keep the barrel length under 16"

Of those two options I'd go with the second choice. The Owl looks like it has the same wobbly stock as a Sig Cross.

The second one looks better.... more adjustable to fit you, faster to point and shoot without messing with that wobbly stock and better thought out for its use case.

I emailed CSC about warranty issues / spare parts and haven't heard back yet.

Unique alpine make very accurate rifles but if something goes wrong with it and I can't get it fixed in a timely fashion then that'll definitely be an issue.

The screech owl chassis is made for hunting / PRS so no issue with being flimsy. Its similiar to the pork sword chassis.

I have 12.5 brl and 16” brl models and would learn towards the 16” more so 14.5 model would be more interesting to me. I have the Scretch owl stock also on rifle and it is a solid platform/stock

RDSC for the win.. 14.5 barrel would be the best of both worlds.
Like that chassis platform
I was leaning towards that because I don't know how getting parts for the unique alpine is going to be. They're action is all in house.

Plus I like the idea of the collapseable stock.

I like the idea of this action / stock because if I hate the 14.5" barrel I can just order up a 16/18"

Or if I want to change calibers I'll have the ability to do that was well.

You will soon regret owning a rifle with such a short bbl, esp in a 308. A 20 or 22" T3 is a far better choice.
I tried out my brother's 7mm tikka and I liked how light it was but man carrying around that long Barrell sucked.

I want something easier to move around with.

Tikka Lite SS chopped and threaded at 18.1” is great. Add the VG and it becomes about the perfect field rifle. See that other forum- and I agree.
But if you need to spend more, reach out to PR Precision and get his micro chassis. It’s a seriously well thought out and quality piece.
Shorty's are fun to look at and play with, but they’ll ultimately ruin your life.

How come it'll ruin my life?

Because every shawty I’ve ever had, showed up all fresh n’ fun. But left me with ear ringing, a headache and broke lol.
That's par for the course with almost every rifle I I've purchased.

I can't get wait to add 1000s of rounds of 308 to my collection

Except for the 22 that cost alot to put together but it's super cheap to shoot.
