Sheild rifleworks or unique alpine in .308

Yup I have shot lots of M600-660 Remmys in 308 over the years and I really would not one shorter 👍
I had an 18.5" 760 for years. I wouldn't want anything shorter and in fact 20" is a much better length.

As I've said before, short bbl rifles suck. They're VERY loud, handle poorly and are hard to shoot at the bench. There's a good list of reasons that most of the sporting rifles out there are longer. A newbie won't see that though.

I don't plan on shooting this off a bench rest.

Following along because I've always liked the idea of a short barreled 308! I always liked the idea of something like S&J's Compact Precision but lots of good options in this thread.

I currently have a project based around a folding buttstock and a 20" CTR and have been patiently waiting for Tikka to come out with a 16" barrel 308 with a medium heavy barrel.

20” is as short as you want on 62k psi short action cartridges. Or never take a field shot without hearing protection. If you have no experience with short barrels you don’t know what you don’t know. A 16” 52k factory ammo munchkin 6.5 Grendel is as far as you wanna go and as blasty and rude as 20” 308 if not a bit more so.

The short barrel fad is for suppressors. Which we can’t have so you’ll regret it.

You don't do load development and range practice?
What no that's silly.

I don't even plan on zeroing it.

Just gonna use flip up irons and hope for the best. 😂

Yes I'll take it to the range but only going to use it to zero it out to 100 then it's out to there bush where I'll use a matt and a bag / tripod or whatever else nature has available for me to shoot out farther as the range I go to only has 200 yards.

Plus with the short barrel and brake I don't want to piss off any else shooting close to me.

I already take my other 7.62 rifle to range with a brake on it and a 18.5" barrel and I'm sure it pisses people off.

The pr precision tikka micro folder is another stock that is quality built. Used one this year elk trip in tikka battue in 3006
I really like the look of this plus it's made in Canada.

Just trying to find a barreled action is quite difficult.

Guess I could buy a rifle toss the stock and have a gun smith cut the barrel, thread it and install the brake for me.

Get Tikka CTR and you will be happy. Right away make inlay wider, so it does not touch the barrel and it will shoot extremely accurate. I was thinking getting Unique Alpine, but got CTR. 419 bedded base with 2-12 Blaser scope with BT, ceracoted for rust resistance and I got myself an excellent rifle, that Im not feel bad to take hunting. Shooting 168 Bergers hunters very accurately to 500 meters.
My 7 cents (including inflation)

Honestly I didn't plan on shooting out past 300 because of the limitations of having a shorter Barrell.
