Shell stuck in 858 help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!pics!

if you go to any metal shop they will probably just give it to you a cunk of steel that short would normally just get tossed in the
scrap bin

Steel suppliers I see don't give anything away free.
I would not use the wood dowling you can buy these days,
it is all crap. I have turned down rock maple for stuff like this,
real tight grain.
Metal is way better , I have some 1/4" brass brazings rod I got one time,
covered in with flux, but it will come off if wet.
If you are in princess auto ,you can get heat shrink tubing in different
sizes to cover your rod. works and the stuff is cheap.

Keep your chamber clean and this would not be a issue. If you do clean your chamber and this is still an issue have the chamber polished. You could also do it yourself with a piece of cleaning rod, an old brass bore brush, fine or super-fine steel wool(wrapped around the old brass bore brush), oil, and a drill. Just don't get to horny on it, or stick it in too far. Clean-up afterwards with 20ga swabs or shotgun patches wrapped around the old brass bore brush.

im no gunsmith but i would try using a small torch and banging it out. or a heat gun. but then again heat makes things expand so don't do it on the case. i would try a blow drier or heat gun on the receiver around the case then try banging it out.

Maybe you can try a steel rod but wrapped with electrical tape so you will not damage the bore. Just give light tap on the rod with a soft mallet and the case should come off. After, clean your chamber very well.

Kroil kroil kroil !

Soak liberally with kroil around the base of the cartridge , and down the sides of the bore.

Wait 24 hrs.

Tap out the case with a normal cleaning rod.

Kroil creeps like no other penetrating oil made.
It will solve the issue -

Ive had it happen twice now the same thing and I do clean everything very thoroughly , after the second time i used the drill method and now its never happened again... all i ever did was ram a cleaning rod in and it always came out .... good luck !

Reading this thread is painful.
In my years of running a shop, things stuck in barrels, with the misery compounded by ill advised attempts to dislodge them, were some of the greatest challenges.
There have been some good suggestions.
Kroil is a superior product.
There have been some really, really bad ones.
Here is a method that should work, and will not do any harm if it doesn't.
You will need a short piece of rod that will just barely slip into the muzzle. Brass would be fine. A short piece of dowel would actually be OK if used only for this method. It must be a tight slip fit.
Fill the bore with oil, almost to the muzzle. Start your plunger into the bore. Give it a good, sharp rap with a hammer. The hydraulic pressure should pop out the case. There will be a mess. Obviously, you will have to plug the gas port.
If you want to try hammering the case out, you want a piece of smooth steel rod of the largest diameter that will just clear the case neck. A piece of O-1 or W-1 drill rod would be ideal. It is available in many diameters. Cut the rod so that only a couple of inches project from the muzzle.
A good crack with a fairly heavy hammer should do the job.
Stop, take a deep breath, and take the time to get the proper tools.
Try the hydraulic method first.
Incidentally, the hydraulic method is a really good way of removing stuck live rounds. First hit will drive the bullet back into the case, and flood the powder. Top up the bore, and the second hit will expell the mess.

I'd listen to tiriaq, given that he is the only gunsmith to have posted in this thread thus far ;)

For the record, I concur with his suggestion. I'm an impatioent sort though, so I'd probably just go straight to O1 drill rod in .310" diameter and use a lead dead-blow hammer to give it a sharp rap.

After you get it out, your chamber undoubtedly need to be polished. Probably there is a burr.
