Bought a set of Nikon ATB 8X42 a few years back and have been happy with them overall.

Unfortunately, their weak point is the twist-type eyecups that with age deteriorated to the point where I lost one.
Since I purchased the binos from the U.S., Nikon Canada wants nothing to do with me. My only option now is to ship
them the Nikon USA for repairs.

Has anyone else shipped their optics to the US for repairs? If so, is there a mechanism in place to ensure that you
don't pay duty for them on the way back? Excuse my ignorance but I haven't sent anything away yet so I'm totally
guessing at outcomes. Called the US reps but they directed me to their website to follow instructions, never bothered
to ask them the same question at the time... Thanks in advance.

Just received a replacement pair of bino's for some I sent for repair back in December.

The manufacturer was terrific to deal with and their customer service was exceptional, a great experience!
The process went like this; I contacted their warranty dept. described the issues and was given a warranty claim #. I then shipped them the bino's via courier at my expense. At the shipping office a customs declaration form was filled out to accompany the bino's.
After approx. 6 weeks a brand new pair of bino's showed up at my door($1400!) with a letter saying enjoy!

No expense to me other than the shipping to the manufacturer. Forgot to mention these binos were originally sourced from the States as well.

Hope that helps, and that you get similar service.

Thanks very much for the info marcoman, I did not know about the Customs declaration. I will call Nikon's customer service department again and this time will ask for a claim number. Appreciate your help!
