$15 on $95 is just HST plus $5 handling fee. What did you expect?

I had allot of orders from Brownells, the only time I paid duty was when I lived on the east coast but since moving to BC I only had to pay duty twice in about 12 orders.
 
Just placed an order using Dilligaf's tip (above) and it was just shipped with a shipping charge of $5.75. Sweet. Hopefully no customs/brokerage either. Will report if so, otherwise a very good price (with the dollar at near par) and shipping cheaper than most Canadian vendors too!
 
Wow, my $75 trigger pull gauge has turned into a $150 trigger pull gauge:eek:

CP just served me a $42 charge. I assume it is Duty of some sort.

Yup, placed an order online yesterday for a TD verticla grip...
Shipped this morning, for 5.75$, cheaper shipping than a lot of dealer in Canada!
 
Just got an order in today from Brownells. $94 for 3 wilson combat 1911 mags. I had to pay the person at the post office $20.82. It took 3 week for the delivery. Not too bad at all.

Ok, not $42 but rather $12, the delivery person's printing wasn't all that great. Some sort of postal import fee payable to to CP?

And Brownels did ship the package Express when I distinctly selected Priority. This has happened more than once to me now.

Is this some sort of penance for not purchasing products that come with instructions in French?

You get dinged a handling fee by CP for brokerage, believe it's around $5-8 these days. The rest is probably PST, GST. Just because you bought it in the US doesn't mean you don't pay taxes on it. A lot of parcels do slip through and don't get dinged at all.

USPS Priority Post is the equivalent of CP Express, what you wanted was USPS First Class International. Brownell's did exactly what you asked them to do. I find the choices given by Brownells to be somewhat confusing, they don't use the same terminology as USPS. To avoid that I write "Please ship most economical means", or "Ship USPS First Class International." in the comments box. If they then ship Priority by mistake a quick e-mail will get you the difference refunded quite quickly.

You can always order by phone, this will cut out a lot of confusion and they can let you know right away if a product is allowed to be exported or not.
