Shok Buffers

I don't like how the slide stop stops working when you use them (the slide can't travel far enough back) if not for that reason I'd try and use one... but as it is, no way.

shok buff

Every 1911 I've had, I have installed a shok buff, never had a problem. If they are not replaced periodically, they can break apart and jam up the gun, but that can take thousands of rounds before doing so. With proper inspection every so often, I can't see any problem with them.

I have a selection of Red Buff shock buffs in different thicknesses. All my 1911's, both singlestack .45 and Open .38 supers have them and all are short stroked enough not to engage the slide stop. Every single one runs flawlessly.

Ditto, but the short-stroking (why am I suddenly aroused ) is, or should I say was, prevalent only on my Para 16-40 LDA. Never been an issue with my Springfield 1911. And after the Shok-Buff got hammered 50 rounds or so, it ended up compressed enuf to allow the slide stop to do its thing :dancingbanana:

So, to summarize: Some guys swear by them, the others swear at them. Are they necessary? - no. Are they toxic? - no. If you really want one go ahead, if you don't it's unlikely your d*ck will fall off. The gun will work both ways.

I bet some of you who use buffers don't pull back on the slide with your hand but rather release the slidestop sending the slide forward. Its when you pull back on the slide to disengage the slidestop they can be a problem. If you don't do this then you would never know there is a problem.

I always slingshot with my weak hand, no problem with the shok buff installed, at least in my gun. I would have ditched the shok buff a long time ago if it gave me any problems.
