They are a waste of money and do nothing other than make your gun jam.
I have a selection of Red Buff shock buffs in different thicknesses. All my 1911's, both singlestack .45 and Open .38 supers have them and all are short stroked enough not to engage the slide stop. Every single one runs flawlessly.
) is, or should I say was, prevalent only on my Para 16-40 LDA. Never been an issue with my Springfield 1911. And after the Shok-Buff got hammered 50 rounds or so, it ended up compressed enuf to allow the slide stop to do its thing 
I bet some of you who use buffers don't pull back on the slide with your hand but rather release the slidestop sending the slide forward. Its when you pull back on the slide to disengage the slidestop they can be a problem. If you don't do this then you would never know there is a problem.
