shooting 10mm from glock21

i have a glock 21 and i want to be able to shoot 10mm out of it also. I've done some research and it seems all i need is a barrel, mags, and a heavy recoil spring. Has anybody done this? I'm thinking of getting a storm lake barrel, and a wolf 24# spring with guide rod.
 
If the Glock armorer's manual is correct, you might also need a new extractor. The 10mm Glock 20 extractor is a different part # than the .45 Glock 21 extractor. But the ejector, recoil spring, and some other parts are the same. FWIW, my manual covers the older Gen 2 Glocks.

Nate, mine is a hybred; I have a KKM 10mm barrel for my Glock 21 45acp. It also required 10mm magazines and just to be on the safe side a stronger recoil spring . Todate, my hybred has been flawless except when Brian45 shot it; he had a jam but we think he limp wristed it. I really like the round and the gun. The G20 slide's about 40g heavier than the G21 slide, which is big enough to make a difference, but not nearly enough I'd be concerned. Just think the G29's slide has to be lighter still than the G21's, so not too much to get excited about. Mind you the G29's only 45g lighter than the G21, with a smaller mag and frame, so I suppose the slide's pretty beefy on that little bugger. Mechanically, the guns are the same, no reason why this is a bad idea as far as I'm concerned. I'd would stick to only running really hot loads through a G20 though to be safe.
 
The G29 is indeed beefy.

For regular 10mm ammo (nothing nuclear) I think you'd be safe with a 22# recoil spring - I wouldn't worry.
 
I saw a side by side comparison of the slides somewhere a long time back. The 20 has more metal on the slide which means additional strength. That particular source (I can't remember what it was) didn't recommend converting the 21 to 10mm IIRC.

I wondered about this too, and came to the conclusion there's no reason it wouldn't work (G21SF uses the same mags as the regular G21, and will thus take G20 mags). I'd put a G20 slide on if it were me. Probablt should put in a 10mm ejector, or tweak the .45 ejector, even though the .45 one works.
 
thanks for the info. as far as the slide being lighter, wouldn't the heavy recoil spring compensate for that? What is the factory weight for a G20 spring? Would a recoil buffer help too?
 
DKS a heavier recoil spring around a 24# would work fine with the G21 slide.

Part of the problem with converting a G21SF to a G20SF is the mag's.

The new G21SF has an ambidextrus mag release and has an extra cut out in the mag. In other words a G21SF mag will work in a G21 but not the other way around.

From what I have been reading the new G20 mags have the ambi cut out and so the change over would work if you either modify the original mags or buy new ambi mags.

Myself I am waiting to see the new SF grip frame or until a G20SF is issued by Glock because I am totally happy with my G20 and now my G29...
 
anyone care to tell me where to buy a kkm barrel from? did you guys import them yourselves or can they be bought in canada?
 
I phoned KKM Precision directly and ordered my barrel actually just ordered a new KKM 40S&W barrel for my G20 should be able to pick it up later next week.

don't have the money for that nor do i want another complete gun. also, last time i checked, glock 20s don't come with kkm barrels. thanks for the helpful contribution to this thread...
