Shooting bag or bipod

I use mainly use a bipod up front but depending on the circumstances I will use a large bag as a front rest as well.
The bipod is great as it is attached to your rifle and isn't bulky.
A large front bag is extra gear to pack around and can be bulky to pack around.
For awkward shooting positions a bag can give you a better shooting position.

You can get different sizes of bags as well.....

I learned on a bag and it sort of teaches you not to cant(some bipods wont let you accidently cant as they can't swivel) and to become more consistent with where you place the bag in relation to the chamber.

A bipod is handy in many cases until you get less urban and the surfaces are irregular( a bag is easier/quicker in some ways). Some people have issues with jump and or loading a bipod consistently.

Like Skullboy mentioned, a bipod is always mounted in the same place on the gun and a bag can be aggraviting to carry/keep up with.

I have, this year, pulled the Harris bipods off my 6.8 SPC and .308 and will get back to my roots of using a front bag, pack, etc.

I have shot off my pack at matches and done very well.
The pack makes a very good shooting platform and you always have your pack in the field.
The medium bag in the picture has Molle web on it so you can attach it to a Molle pack with Malic clips and leave it on if you so desire.

I like that bag. I learned without a rear bag and pretty much without a designated front bag like those we see today and some times I think I've become to lazy(a 14+ lb rig is too heavy to hump in and out coyote hunting) and too gear dependent(the old "more gagets are better")and I think I will get back to less equipment.

Like you mentioned we pretty much always have a ruck or some type of pouch/bag with us anyway.

As you posted this in the "square range forum". Nothing will beat an F-class Bipod. Google Star shooter, Rempel, M-pod, Joy-pod bipod's.

Bag's are nice, and IMO you should learn to shoot off them also. If you're going to buy some look at the ones skullboy makes. They look like a good product.

It all depends on what type of shooting your talking about. Crashing out into the bush in the back forty, or at a range? Known dedicated shooting spot at your house/farm that you have an area always prepared? All those questions can change the answer you will get.

I use an eberlestock back pack for all my hunting, and I practice a tonne off of it also at varying distances. The joy for me though is I can reach 850m any time I want at the farm.

I use the GunRunner Eberlestock on two of my coyote hides, 1 is about a mile in and the other is 1.5 miles in. Amazing how a heavy rifle becomes easier to carry with a purpose made pack.

I started using a JSA rear bag last year and will never go back to the monopod.

I actually kinda use both, I put the monopod down that the put the small bag in front of it then push the bag against the monopod and use it as a handle to push into my shoulder and then squeeze the bag to set height for the shot.

On the front I use a bipod, have bags I used a couple times but too lazy to drag them out with me, I only recreational shoot also no competitions or PRS, just prone or bench.
