Shooting beavers

I met a local farmer to ask permission to hunt on his land. He has a problem with beavers on his property. I got the impression that I could get permission to his property if I am willing to take care of the beavers. It's a beautiful 96 acres property only 10 minutes from my house.

Can I legally shoot a beaver in Ontario without a trapping license?

Thanks

If they are damaging property then I'm pretty sure yes. Talk to the OMNR.

But, thats where the Shoot Shovel Shut Up rule comes in to play.

Instead of giving the OP advice to break laws because 'its necessary' are there any other suggestions? I shot a whack of beavers in ON but they were all on my trapline.
Dumping a lit roadflare in a beaver house will make it uninhabitable and the beavers generally leave the area. Not the nicest thing to do at this time of year, but its at least an option.

They can be shot, by the land owner, a direct relative of the land owner (father, son, sister brother..) or by an agent for the MNR.
Anything else is poaching.

I know of a whole lot of people who do it though.

In Quebec, they can be shot by the landowner or anyone who has written permission from the landowner.
I spoke with the game warden before I shot them.

Now there are more of the furry farts upstream. There is no end to them!
I like the lit roadflare idea, but first would have to dig into their den, and I wonder if that's legal.

It's not legal to shoot at any fur bearer in Quebec, except in some zones wich will allow shooting foxes.

The landowner have no rights to allow someone to shoot at beavers, but because of the actual boom in beaver population it's somewhat "tolerated". One agent may tell you "it's ok" while another one will charge you for that. Before doing so, you better ask for a written agreement from the MRNFQ (wich they don't like to give) if you want to stay out of trouble.
They much prefer to have the beavers removed by a competent trapper. It is also illegal to waste the fur of a fur bearer animal.

Trouble with beavers is I used to get $40-50 in the early 70s for a medium pelt, now you can't get enough to pay your fuel. They have become not "fur" animals but Rodents. Shoot Shovel & Shut-up NO ONE will bother you!

What drives beavers nuts is to tear a small hole in the dam and insert a 4" x 12' piece of pipe sticking 3/4 of it out into the pond underwater. It will frustrate the hell out of them trying to locate the leak............Harold

True that, but they'll just move a little up or down stream & build some more.

I did the submerged pipe thing, had to put in four 4 inch pipes in 2 dams separated by 30 feet. Unfortunately the drainage could not keep up with the incoming water flow and beaver's couldn't care less. After tolerating a few weeks of flooded fields they were ultimately dispatched in a conventional manner.

Kill every last one of those MOFO son's of whores. I have got 14 out of the same spot this year and they are still damming my creek and have pucked my well.
I like the road flare idea but I will wait till the outside temp gets to -30 to leave them homeless.

How long till they evacuate the lodge after a flare is used? Could I wait for em to come out on the ice and start whacking them?
