Hello guys...
Not sure if I should post in the Optics Forum but have a question:

Been thinking about mounting a 1-4x scope on my AR to replace my Aimpoint RD.
Interested in one that's spec'd 1.5-4x with etched German reticle and illuminated dot.
How will the 1.5 affect shooting with "both eyes open"?

Thanks

I shoot everthing (bolt gun, pistol, shotgun, C-8) with both eyes open. It's never been a problem for me.

I shoot everything both open. Even rifles with higher magnification. Just a habit I learned shooting scoped archery gear.

I have a 1x(1.1?)-3x scope... as long as the eye relief is perfect for you and you constantly shoulder the rifle consistently, it'll be no problem.

So speed is not an issue shooting "both eyes open" with a low magnification vs 1x? Just seems strange with one eye at 1x and the other at 1.5(+)

I have had 0 issues with my Spectre DR 1.5x6 optic with both eyes open.
You should be GTG.. Target acquisition is no different at 1.5, then it is with my eotechs, aimpoint, or Spectre DR 1x4 optics..
For me anyways.

even using a 6-24x scope i keep both eyes open, it lessens fatigue in your eyes that way (its amazing how much you strain to close just one eye) so from handguns to red dots to high powered scopes both eyes open for me.

takes practice for some people. other people can do it naturally.

This is exactly why I shoot "both eyes open"....eliminate the fatigue factor.
Never tried it with my long range rifle but will have to give it a shot.

Blind ?

EVERYONE can shoot with both eyes open !

But not every one can hit fast and effectively even if they say no problem.

Eye dominance and muscle memory play a big part in both eyes open accuracy.

The Bindon Concept is effective for almost every normal sighted person up to 2 to maybe 2 1/2 power.

More magnification slows the shooter down as more time is required for the scope eye take over dominance due to the greater disparity between the 2 images.

X2 here. In fact I'd go as far as saying I can't shoot scoped rifles while trying to keep one eye closed. I go up to 15x mag out to 300 meters.

I was always taught to close one eye.
I do it naturally still but with a high magnification scope I can shoot both eyes open and my tendancy to close one eye leads me to quickly close my left eye and open it. Gets my transfered over to my dominant eye and everything is clear.

It just takes practice
