Shooting Distance

Hell, they will all shoot the same distance! But how accurately? Well...

I shot a couple of bone stock unmodified norcs at 650 meters. I have shot modified (clinic tune) ones further, but not because I could shoot further with the tune, just because I happened to be somewhere I could get a little more distance.

The furthest I have shot, ever, with a norinco was 1100m and I could not make out the hits without a spotter so I burned off about 20 rounds at that range and stopped. That is way outside my ability anyway.

I regularly shoot at about 400m and I am comfortable in that range. I occasionally shoot to 600m and rarely to around 800m.

I do not own a norinco with a scope on it so that is all USGI irons.

Ok, YOu dont answer me
I just want to know at distance You Shoot With your M14
and you're last Word is insane,

Darn, you snagged my reply, before I deleted it.

I miss read your question as "how far can a m14 shoot"!

The most I would attempt to push a 308Win in a hunting situation is 300 yds.

Beyond that you had better be a danm'd fine shot as retained energy is getting below that required for a clean kill.

I mostly provide suppressing volley fire with my loose 305 at distances of more than 100 meters. Just in case the targets think of firing back.

My instructor once told me: "If your eyesight gets so bad that you can not see the targets at 20 meters, perhaps it's time to put down the guns."
Unfortunately it's getting there, and I'm only 24. :(

It's insane to hunt with an M14?

Oh.....i dunno.......i shot a Crow with mine once, not much left after the 150gr was finished though, its own fault ...had it stayed cawing up in the air instead of deciding to land in the field....the bugger might be still here today.

I have only one centerfire rifle, the M14, so I use it 300-500 meters with a 2.75X Intermediate Eye Relief scope at Service Conditions matches, 100-200 meters at the granby range, and less than 50 meters in the Quebec bush for deer.

I don't feel it's insane to hunt with an M14. I think it is necessary we have Na*i powers in the Gov't now who are arguing that there is no place for semi's in hunting. One step closer to the knock on the door.

50 yards at my indoor range, and 100/200 yards at an outdoor range. 100 yards is a nice distance, and 200 yards is challanging with my stock Norinco M-14S using iron sights, but very do-able.

I'd really like a Springfield Armory M1A Loaded Walnut with national match 0.62 front sight post, and smoother trigger. 200 yards with that would be nice, and much more accurate...just like my Springfield Armory Inc. M1 Garand .30-06 Sprng...VERY accurate :)

we used to do 600 over open sights in basic- 150 grain ball, ( well 147) on something like a b-29 man sized target- sure, you can do better/longer if you handload and use s round with a better b/c , but this was issue ball- as for hunting, it's really the cartridge that limits the range as far as i;m concerned , and not the gun- since i use 165's and my mpbr is 287 yards, and the drop is a good couple of feet at 400, the 300 figure is about right for me

Don't feel bad. Half the guys here are full of s**t. Shooting stock iron sights at 300+ yards is pretty good if your only goal is to hit a hillside. I find ammo too expensive these days to waste pounding rounds down range just trying to hit something once in awhile. I gotta make that money count :D

Had the same result on my sight in too, I think I need some time to get used to the gun and also, I ditched the bipod because I felt it wasnt sturdy enough.

havent shot the m14 since then
