Shooting Glasses

I wear Randolph Edge, and I have had a pellet strike the center of one lens hard enough to leave a mark when I was pulling targets for skeet on station 8. I was standing behind the shooter at the time.

I believe Trivex is now the gold standard - but point take that most sunglasses are not impact / shatter resistant.

I wouldn't go as far as to say Gold Standard however the composition of Trivex allows it to have a slight bit more clarity than poly-carbonate but that's where the advantages end. PC can be made in a lot more shapes and multi focus combinations than Trivex. PC can be made thinner but Trivex is lighter so total weight is a wash. Shatter resistance is the same for both but Trivex normally costs a bit more than PC. Something a lot of people don't realize about both of these lenses is that they both block 100% of UV rays with no special lens coatings!

I cringe when I see people shooting clay targets without good eye protection. All it takes is one pellet to cause a life time of blindness!

As the skeet chair, I refuse to allow people to shoot skeet without eye protection. Some people bring dark sun glasses, then they can't see the targets, so they want to shoot without glasses.

I bought a set of browning interchangeable lense ones recently. I pulled them out of the package, checked them out, then put them back in the case in my vest. When I pulled them out at the next shoot, there was some sort of peeling finish on the lenses. Made them total garbage. It's also on the lenses I didn't handle on initial examination, so it wasn't some contamination from my filthy paws.

Just ordered a set of Oakley Flak 2.0 with Rx black prizm lenses. Looking forward to trying them out. Might order a second set with a clear or light amber or grey tint for low light shooting.

I have a hard time getting shooting glasses to fit. I find they do not sit high enough on the nose to clear my field of view.

I shoot trap, and at one time I shoot using one eye open and the top of the glasses always seemed to get in the way.

I went to shooting with both eyes open and my scores have increased. But finding good glasses hard to find where I am.

I live in the southern Okanagan and there is no retailers here. Any suggestions?

Check out Post 4 Optics in Lewiston Idaho, the founder and owner is an avid trap shooter and optician by trade and his frames are made to fit high on the face for the reasons you state. His lenses are ground in house and fitted to titanium frames designed for shooters and he has a wide variety of interchangeable lenses of different colors to choose from. My wife and I have been using Post 4 glasses for years and we're both perfectly happy with them. They have a website that you can order online from and you can get prescription lenses ground as well. The CDN/USD exchange rate isn't very favorable right now but it is what it is!

I went looking for Post 4's website and it appears that the owner Mike Rinard passed away recently and there are no plans to continue the business so sadly post 4 optics are done. A company called L & M are supposedly making lenses for the post 4 frames but I don't know if anyone is making the frames, it might be worth while dropping L&M an email to see if they have any or know where they can be found.
