Looking for input from members of what they are using for a shooting mat/Bag, what they like dislike about the quality of the mat/bag they bought.

Alot of choices out there, and sometimes quality is so hard to tell from a photo.

I have been looking closely at the AIM Mat Bag Combo. They are a UK manufacturer and there product looks fantastic.

Any one else I should be looking at?

ATRS has a bag\mat now I believe....
Canadian company and been known to be a little fussy\meticulous about their products

I've used the Black Mountain Tactical drag mat and am pleased with it. That being said I have no experience with higher end/higher cost alternatives. At $99 I think it's a pretty good deal.

Thanks,

I'm using the TAB Pollak mat. It rolls up and I feed the cinch straps through the webbing on my pack. Seems to be waterproof after shooting on wet sand for a couple hours. Its very basic with just padding for your elbows, 2 cinch straps to roll it up and stake loops for windy days.

A mat is a mat, and a case is a case. I personally would not combine the two. With the combo case/mat and you are shooting in wet/muddy/dusty weather/areas you would be placing your rifle in a wet/dirty case at the end of the day.

Tactical Operations dragbag. It is a dragbag/shooting mat combo. Very high quality, well thought out gear.

I should mention that the shooting mat is not the bag itself. It's a separate mat that is kept in a pocket on the dragbag until you need to deploy it.

This thread has some great info and pictures of the TacOps drag bag: http://forum.snipershide.info/showthread.php?t=85216

I think you have to employ both. Depending on the shooting conditions, you can get away with a case/mat combo for dry surface or need a separate mat for damp/wet surface. I have have both.

Not to mention, if you are using the pockets on your bag/mat to take things to your shooting area, you have to empty them before shooting otherwise you have ammo boxes, tools, spare items jabbing you in the ribs or nuts while you're trying to shoot.

I have and like the tri-fold mat from centerthegroup dot com. It's just a mat. My only caution is that there is a black section which is meant to be where you rest when shooting. Don't do that if it's a billion degrees in the blazing sun at the end of June. I changed the orientation pretty fast! They have a roll out version also. He also offers drag bags. He'll make you a drag bag to your specifications. This is a Canadian operation with very reasonable prices. The website is a bit simple so I suggest you use the link to send an email. The quality is great and I had a good experience dealing with Paul.

Buddy taught me this:

Yoga mat. Picked one up for $20 at a local wholesale sporting goods place. Nice thick comfy foam, rolls up tight and can easily be stored and dispatched. 10 year warranty as well.

Maybe the spouse has one that wouldn't miss it being repurposed?

I just found my old self inflating sleeping mat from when I still camped in a tent, it's about an inch thick or so when inflated and worked fine for camping. Rolls up to deflate and goes in a bag once rolled up, will now be my shooting mat.
