Shooting the 408 cheytac

Very nice set up and I hate you for being able to use SUPPRESSORS. What a joy that would be.

Had a chance to shoot a custom 408 and it shot wonderfully. Bullets are made 2hours away. Seemed to have no issue putting a real hurt on some boulders 1400yds out.

Because it wasn't my rifle, I enjoyed the few rds and didn't get a chance to go out to a mile. I am sure it would have been a no brainer.

For those really interested in this cal, I can supply brass.

What dies are you using?

Looks like a splendid place to go play. Thanks for posting the pics and story.

Jerry I'm using CH4D dies and inline bullet seater.(and there neck sizer) They make a great product.

Thanks, Never seen them as a reg. produced item.

Any accuracy reports?

There has been alot of pros and negs on this rifle. Love to know from someone who actually shoots one.

What type of bullet do you use?

Lost river 419 grain with 125.5 grains of reloader 25. And some of the leighs 395 grain

1/2 moa or better at 100 yards and it translates out to very long distances.

Nice rifle, if only I had the money! I say that far too much while browsing this site.

For those interested in a spotting scope like that take a look at a schmidt-cass telescope. You can certainly crank up the power without losing image quality. Mind you mirage is severe and your image won't be oriented the right way. Here's mine. 8 inch obj diameter.

nice setup, that's a Swiss range finder isn't it? the spotting scope looks a bit awkward with the angle of the eyepiece, how is it for long sessions?

I was under the impression that Lost River was no longer in business??

I agree the CH4D dies are top notch, we carry them for the 408 for the rifles we build and I can not think of better dies for that caliber.

It took me a little bit to get used to this rifle. The stock is different than anyrifle I have had before. when you say pros and cons on this rifle do you mean cartridge or rifle or both? With this rifle the recoil is not bad at all. (nothing compared to a 50.) The rifle is expensive- you could do a single shot for not much more than any other custom rig. the real cost is the bullets. It get expensive if you shoot allot.Since I have my load developed I try not to shoot it under 1500 yards. It's a waste to shoot it under that. (like driving a Ferrai in a parking lot)
A 375/408 custom single shot would be a better option for most. I also have the 50cal conversion for my gun. I can get the 375/408 barrel.
(as well as a 416 barret barrel,338 lapua barrel, and 50dtc barrel. That is what I like about this gun!)

You are right Jammison international now makes them.

cam1936 I like your spotting scope. looks easier to haul around than mine :)

My range finder is the Brittish version. In Yards not meters! The eye peice is not bad looking thru when you have your chair sitting at the right angle.
