Shooting yotes on deer stand

I've shot bucks and dropped them, and when I walked up, had their buddy bedded down beside them on more than one occasion. I've shot bucks and walked up tot hem to have ms. Doe staring at me, and then wander away. I've shot bucks and have other bucks go over and sniff them while I watched from a distance.

Gunshots don't spook animals much really, it's humans wandering around that does. Sure if you shoot and miss, reload repeat several times, Mr, Buck is gonna leave, though:p

I say its good practise, see a yote while deer hunting to shoot it, no deer will be behind it.

My buddy says let it go, shooting will scare deer.

Who's right?

ANY opportunity to take out a coyote (legally) should NOT be passed up!!! I bet your buddy complains about the coyote population affecting the deer population doesn't he...

Well... Tell him to DO SOMETHING about it!!! :slap:

Cheers

:agree:

I've put bullets within a few inches of a bucks' nose to kill the doe behind him and their biggest reaction is to her antics. If I was concealed and they don't see movement from me after the shot, they go right on feeding. They hear a LOT of loud sounds in the course of the day, especially in oil rig country, an extra boom or two doesn't phase them.

If you are hunting with others ask before you get in the bush. If others think its a problem then you must respect the group & let the damb things pass. Coyote hunting is great training and should be done by all hunters, just not when hunting deer with a group. Note too that on a push coyotes will often leave the bush before deer, a shot then can skrew up the hunt.

My feelings exactly. Come to an agreement if hunting with others. If on my own? then death to coyotes! Took a large timber wolf last year in Alberta from a favorite stand as a pack came through chasing two moose. Got a nice Muley from same stand next day.

Just like some others have said, not really sure a gun shot or two alone scares them. Once a buddy of mine and I were target shooting out to 300yds and were there for over an hour. After shooting, putting the guns away, we start to walk up to our targets and low and behold, to our surprise, 2 does and a fawn, are looking at use from just behind our target, who would of thought.....so if it were up to me, I would take the yote and continue to wait for the big buck to show up...

Thanks for the input, I never have shot one because everything I seem to see while deer hunting I am with my buddy who does not want me too.

This year deer hunting, a nice 8 point came out, I shot at him and missed.

He just stood there looking at me. He was not afraid at all so the noise did not scare him off.
That was his fatal mistake too. I did not miss the second time.:D

i'd go for it, i have seen too many deer that weren't bothered in the least by shots to worry about popping a coyote.

I was hunting ducks one night, a few years back, when a young buck came out of the bush, just looking at me, as I'm standing in hip high water standing in chest waders against the cattails.

Even shot a few ducks WHILE HE WAS WATCHING not more than 40 yards away.
Tried shoeing him away, but I guess he didn't understand I was a threat even with the gun shots.?...

Was a fun evening in the field shooting ducks and having my future dinner watching me entertain...:D

First week of shotgun hunt this year at about 7:30am I was sitting in a tree stand minding my own.Noticed a fisher scampering along the deer trail.Didn't think any thing of it. Then she stopped sniffed around a little bit, then precceded to make a v line right to me. she got a "warning shot" so to speak as she did not responed to verble warning. anyway after that we pushed that bush and nice big buck came out. Unfortunatly we where a man down and the brutte slipped by us just out of range.

I wouldn't worry too much about the gunshots. I have shot at and missed deer on two occasions with a muzzleloader and on both occasions they didn't appear the least bit fazed. One deer even bedded down while I quietly reloaded in my treestand.
