Short and light hunting carbine build?

I don't get it ...

If one has say a 700 or model 7 they really like but it lacks irons .... what's the difficulty with enlisting a gun smith to install them ?

What that gonna cost and can you even put sights on a pencil barrel ? I was under the impression that the diameter of the barrel was to thin ????

I would put the money on ruger gunsite synthetic model and put the xs rail with peep and use quick release scope rings. If done a rem 700 acs(?) with 16" brl and added sights to it and for the money/time ruger is very good option

I think the weight listing is wrong on the ranch, handling one at Cabela’s and some research I’ve done I’d say 6+ ( I should have weighed it ) I also should have bought last year when they had on sale for $599!

Ruger lists the 308 at 5.5lbs, and the 223 at 6.1lbs. Was it a 223 model you looked at by chance?

I'm gonna take a look at one of the 308 or 450bm ones next time I'm in Cabelas, they've piqued my interest...

I’ve had the .223 And 6lbs would be about right , it was the .308 that I was looking at.

It can be done. I had sights installed on a Kimber Montana barrel which is a zero contour.

I forgot about the Battue. It ticks all the boxes and you can find one on the EE for well under a grand. The sights on it are fantastic. I'm not a 100% sure but you might be limited in the size of a scope you can mount due to the height of the rear sight.

My Kimber Adirondack breaks three of your rules but it should still be considered as it is a heck of a accurate rig and absolute joy to tote around the hills.... No sights, blind mag and a few $$ more but damn!

the Ruger American Ranch 308Win almost matches your needs
16" barrel but a heavier contour
5.5lbs
1MOA or less with reloads or match ammo. Perhaps will shoot 2moa with ELD-X

no iron sights
cabelas canada exclusive

While not a 308 I was out this morning shooting my 16" barreled Ruger American Ranch in 450 Bushmaster.

I reload but with factory equivalent ammo this rifle is a absolutely amazingly accurate thumper out to 300 yards.

I also load from 200gr FTX - 405gr WLNGC's in it.

I dropped a 1400lbs cow that had a broken front leg last year with a 355gr WFNGC @ 1850fps shot was 40 yards it hit the ground so hard I felt the ground vibrate plus saw the bullet hit the ground behind it after it passed thru its skull.

Tikka Battue Light. Everything you want. Great Trigger, super accurate, excellent integral tikka mounting rail (if you want to use it), open sights. Has 20" barrel though. You could look for a used on on EE

YUP! .......... Checks off all the boxes. If you can find one, the walnut version is quite a bit nicer with a lot less plastic.

Russian TOZ in 308, you can scope it if it comes with the rings, it has a steel magazine and is pretty light. I picked one up for $400 last year for a buddy with his outrageous budget of $400 for a 308 with a magazine and iron sights that was lighter than his full military #4mk1 which he had been hunting with previously. She is not as pretty as everyone the suggestions everyone else made but it would work well on deer and moose all the same. plus its a decently accurate firearm for a lower price than a Savage axis and made in the Tula armouries. My buddy though carried it for both deer and moose then gave it back to me saying he'd think about it, i'm still holding the rifle and was told for sure he'd settle up with me this coming hunting season and not to sell it....grrrr (don't do that)
