Short Magnums. What are they bringing to the field?

That is average, however we have gotten around that same grouping at 100 yards with 5 shots instead of three.

Sounds like you have an accurate rifle:)

Here is a pic of a group I shot at 420 yards over a backpack rest with my 300WSM

I think that is good enough for deer hunting!;)

Fine shooting there Gate, Im going out this weekend to shoot long range with my 7wsm and my buddy will have his 300 wsm, his is also a tack driver. cheers pete

My 2 cents on this one. If the Short mags had call out years ago there would be not long Mags
around today . As they would not be a improvement over them for example .The 270 would not
come out today and take over the 270 wsm .There would be no 270 Winchester or maybe a
wildcat that’s it no factory production in 270 win .

You guys ask yourself that question and you will have your answer... Would i let go my 270, 300 mag, 223, 243, 7mm, forever and take a WSM 270, 300 WSM, 223 WSSM, 243 WSSM, 7mm WSM, my answer is no... JP.

I agree with you but if it was the other way around you would be crazy to
make that same change.

Any WSM is a very nice caliber, if they were there first all of those we know would be a duplicate, they are to close to justify having both of each, they do the same job at 95%... JP.

Out to 400-450 is where they shine as a deer bullet. After that, you are better off with something with a higher BC.

That's interesting to here, Im going to be running 100 TTSX's in my 260 and 120's in my 7mm WSM. Not that I'm gonna be shooting animals at 400 yards...just curious is all.

The real reason is marketing, more money for the compagny, in the end all of the short mag did not bring anything new new except more temporary variety, i went like many peoples to 300wsm and after a while i came back to 300 mag and 308, in 20 years they will have almost all vanish. maybe the only one that will survive will be the... 300wsm... JP.

^^^Have to agree. The 300 WSM is a 30-06 and a half, or a 300 WM minus a half. From a marketing angle the 300 WSM will survive, but the 270 WSM does something that the others dont...finds a niche.....would make a really nice chambering for a lightweight short action mountain rifle.

short mags are for people who want to spend 3x the price of a regular box of ammo

And look 3x as hard to find it. :) I own a .270 WSM and hand load,, otherwise she'd be down the road and the performance is no great gain over the regular .270 Win. Doesn't like the heavier bullets either. Even the Brass is a premium price product.
