Short range thumper suggestions.

My version, I want speeds that allow impacts above 2200fps for a couple hundred yards. Throws 260gr Accubonds are 2550fps, supersonic to 1000 yards. Fits five down in a standard magazine, and can even fit in an M70 short action. I’ll have to build that variation one day on a SS M70.

Never seen that before! Got more info on it? Googling 375 Kemano didn't get me very far.

One of a kind, from a twisted mind! ;) :d

About 20 years ago there was an article in either Rifle or Handloader where the author stated that caution was needed with M1910 Mannlichers in 9.5x57 as at least one had been found with with a Gibbs chamber. I remember it well as I had a M1910 at that time.

I found the thread. Very interesting! Hard to argue with that for a "short range thumper", except maybe the short range part. Lol

Here's some .375's that can be fun to work with, especially the 375/284. I hunted & plinked with the 35 cal version years back & it was a dandy.:)

Apparently another tortured guide’s soul is out there, comforting to know.

Handy little chambering and most efficient cartridge I’ve ever worked with at turning powder into velocity, flies like a .338 Win Mag but kicks like a heavy bullet .30-06 load.

I'll admit I didnt read all of this thread but as soon as I hear bush thumper the ruger American in 450 bushmaster comes to mind.

I will agree = I have one of those 16" barreled rifles I have it loaded with 200gr 225gr 250gr FTX, 240gr and 300gr XTP-Mags and 355gr WLNGC's and have 390gr, 405gr and 535gr WLNGC bullets to still work up a load for.

I dropped this cow at 40 yards at my friends cattle ranch (it had a broken leg) with a 355gr WLNGC @ 1850fps it hit the ground so hard I felt the ground shake.

I find it quite elegant and that Mauser is a beaut. I've been tempted to do the same in 9.3x57 but for several reasons won't.

Have you found that you can load your scout rifle at higher pressures over the factory stuff that is made for AR15 rifles?
I have been fondling the 450 scout at my local shop for a couple months and I really like it. I havnt found too much on reloading in bolt action rifles but a few people seem to really push the max limits and are able to achieve some great velocity.
If I ever buy one I would like to swage some .458 bullets down to .452 and see what it does with heavier pills

If you ever get the hankering let me know, I have a .25 Gibbs reamer and just hand cut my chamber with it and .375 2 1/4 reamer (extremely close to 9.5x57). You could cut the Gibbs shoulder and body in about 30 mins by hand. I agree if you ever forgot and still had other 9.3x57s you were feeding and chambered one... odds are would be fine off the extractor, but better safe than sorry.

450bm max pressure is only 38500psi, so I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to safely heat things up a bit in a bolt action.

My biggest concern would be the SD of bullets in 45cal- it takes a 350gr pill to get a comparable sectional density to a 165gr 308cal pill, and the 250gr factory loads have lower SD than a 125gr 308.

I'd like to have a nice little FN98 with 20" bbl in 9.3x57 but I doubt there would be any blacksmiths in this here Canada with that reamer.

I've no idea what factory loads are like never shot one.

Here are some loads that work in my Ruger velocities are from my LabRadar muzzle - 25 yards - 50 yards.

450 Bushmaster

Camp Cook’s Loads Ruger 16” barrel

225gr Hornady FTX with 41grs Lilgun
muzzle 2453 25 yards 2303 50 yards 2160fps
2451 2301 2160fps
2441 2293 2151fps

I put together a reduced recoil load

225gr Hornady FTX with 34grs AA#9
2123 1984 1857fps
2029 1894 1770fps
2090 1955 1827fps

240gr XTP-Mag 40grs Lilgun
2396 2224 2064fps
2462 2283 2123fps
2373 2203 2051fps

300gr XTP-Mag 41grs AA1680 I really don’t know what to say about this load....
1670 1580 1504fps
1745 1649 1561fps
2295 2130 1995fps wow what happened?
1789 1689 1605fps

355gr WLNGC's 31grs Lilgun
1852 1738 1638fps
1844 1740 1648fps
1827 1723 1626fps

No worries if ye load hardcast bombs in weights from 300-400+ gr. The 1 in 16 twist in the Ruger Scout & American Ranch units are nicely suited to heavy boolits that take the .450 Bushmaster to it's proper potential for big critters at woods ranges. Just don't be surprised when ye can't recover the boolit after a shot placed through the shoulders of the critters ye choose to hunt. Full length penetration on hefty critters ain't uncommon either. ;)

200+fps lost in only 50yds? Damn that seems like a lot! Especially those 225gr loads, 290fps lost!
