Shorten PAL Approval Times

Was that for your PAL or RPAL?

Just an update with my story not really to painful over all

NOV 6 -Passed CFSC Course
NOV 10- Mailed Application (without CFO stamped test-results)
NOV 14- Application Received
DEC 15- Received CFO stamped test results in the mail
DEC 16- Faxed CFO stamped test results @ 2 pm
DEC 16- Call in and ask if they got results via fax @ 4pm and am told lisence is issued no interviews done

Just waiting for my card in the mail

Longest part of the wait was 6 weeks for stamped results

Update

Nov 20th: PAL taken and passed (100% and 100%)
Dec 16th: Sent application off without test results as they still have not arrived.
Dec 19th: 2011/12/19 14:15 MIRAMICHI Item successfully delivered
Dec 28th: Called and asked if there was anything wrong with my file that may cause it to be held up. Was informed "it is not currently in our system, please give it one more week and call back"
Jan 3rd: Received test results. Also checked online and status is now "currently being processed"
Jan 3rd: Faxed results to CFC
Note: Slight problem as I used my wife as a reference and this is a no no apparently.
Jan13: Sent back reference form with new reference.
Jan24: Checked today and found message "Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)"

Pending update

Well here's my timeline.

Oct. 29th: Passed CFSC
November 5th: Mailed away application and results
November 14th: Received by the CFC
December 12th: Your Application has been processed and your license issued.
December 19th: Awaiting card in the mail

Perhaps it'll show up tomorrow? A guy can dream :D

what firearms do you wish to possess in the next 5 years.

non-restricted / restricted.

Dont check both if you only passed the non restricted class, they'll hold it waiting for you rpal test results.

Its good question just worded badly. Yes i plan on restricted in the next 5 years but i did not pass a course for it as of yet. lol durrrr oh well it costed me an extra day on my wait.

My status

Hi guys, I am new to this forum but have been following this and other threads on CGN for awhile now.

I did the CRFSC and CFSC and am now in the process of applying for my RPAL.

Just for everyone's information:

Passed safety courses: Dec 4/5
Mailed Expressport: Dec 6
Received by CFC: Dec 8 (confirmed through Canadapost tracking)
Posted to website: Dec 16 (showing receipt date of Dec 8th as above) with note that they are missing information and will contact me.
Called CFC about missing information: Dec 19 (I forgot to check box that I had no former spouse .... fixed on phone ... they then told me I could not do my interview because my application was not yet scanned but to call back later in the week.
Called back and did interview: Dec 21
References called and did interviews: Dec 21

Now the question:
I have got to the point where everything that can be processed is processed and from reading this thread the next step is for my status to change to "issued" however this cannot be done (I assume) since it has been only 13-14 days ....

1) Will my status stay the same and change right on the 28th day or will someone need to do something else to get the card "issued." Do I need to call back?
2) Is there anyway I can know that everything is in good order with my reference interviews, etc at this point? Will calling them do any good or will they just tell me to wait for the 28 days?

Thanks for your help!

It's 28 days from Dec 8
It will show approved and license issued, when do approve it, or else, if it does not show up on the 28th day (the 5th of January) I'd suggest you give them (CFC) a call.

My application (test results and all) arrived and were signed for on the 13th of December, just called today to check for any missing information and was told it wasn't at that point yet... uhm really people, its all there, put it into the friggin system already.

Thanks. Yes - I was just curious if anyone knew if they approved it in the system ahead of time (after the process was done) so that it automatically went to approved on the 28th day or if it just got put into a pile to be approved some time after this point. But I guess it can't hurt to call them on the 28th, see everything is done and hopefully they will approve over the phone.

within 28 days, i got this message;
its been issued and processed, if you dont recive it within 2 weeks, pls contact us, blah blah lol

registered mail, all 3 interviews done in 1 day, issued on the 28th day ( they had to wait until the 28th day befour issuing?)

hopefully my mailbox has a early xmas present right =)

any awsome deals goin on on ruger sr22s or the mossberg flat top tactical 22?

TY CGN

Here is my timeline so far:

Nov 5/6: Passed CFSC
Dec 21: Received stamped results from CFO
Jan 7: CRFSC will be taken
Feb/Mar 2012: Should hopefully receive stamped results

I'm not sure if they are backed up or if everyone and their dog is applying for a PAL, but 44 days to mail test results, stamp them, and mail them back is ridiculous. At this pace I should have the license in my hands by April :(

I called the centre in Orillia today, they informed me that they will be working on the test results for the November 26th 27th date next week, she said I would have them in a week or two. I live in Ontario so I think I will send off my RPAL application to the RCMP tomorrow to get the ball rolling and then send my test result later

At least I can get my 28 day waiting period started. I weill sent it the fastest way possible

Well they received my application this morning my rest results will follow in two weeks time

After reading some of the 246 pages on this thread, I'll post my PAL to RPAL upgrade.

Nov 18 : Challenged restricted, passed.
Nov 28: Phoned 1-800 number to make sure application was filled out correctly.
Nov 29: Put in mail (that evening, snail mail)
Dec 05: Shows online, has past initial processing, now in progress.
Dec 19: Phoned in for update, was told they are looking at it, phone back in a couple days.
Dec 21: Phoned back in, all info was completed, asked to perform interview. Was suggested to have references phone in to speed up application. Both references phoned that day and completed interviews.
Dec 23: No status change on application. Will phone on Dec 27 for update.

Overall , not bad considering Christmas holidays and all. Hoping to see licence in mail early new year!

P.S.: Everyone I spoke to on the 1-800 number was very friendly and helpful!
Cheers to all of them, it helps make the process that much eaiser! (Even though I know they are employed by people applying firearms licences)
;)

Just a question with regard to references.... I read the point about having your references call in. I am only applying for my PAL (in Alberta). I believe that having your references call in was for the RPAL right? From what I have read it doesn't sound like they always contact references for a PAL right? Just want to make sure I do everything right to have my app processed as quickly as possible.

thanks

For PAL, they may/may not be contacted (more likely not), RPAL, yes, they will be contacted.

No one was contacted for my PAL approval, but I had an exisiting FAC before the PAL, not sure if this even matters. RPAL; yes, both references were contacted (actually phoned in).
As stated in the OP, keep on the CFC. They are closed today, but just phone in and ask for an update on your application. This thread deserves PROPS!

Mine RPAL application is sitting on the CFO's desk waiting for the final approval.....

:kickInTheNuts:

I was told " due a large sum of applications, it may take longer for the CFO to get it, check back in week or two".

Translation: Phone us again tomorrow.......;)

Heres my update:
Took and passed my CFSC/CRFSC on Dec 10/11
waiting on my results before sending in my application
ill update once i get it in the mail
this should be interesting given the holidays

Update,

Got my test results Dec 28th (just under 6 weeks from passing my upgrade course which is not to bad considering the time of year).

Faxed them on the 28th. Called today (30th) and they did my interview on the spot so I had my 2 references call in right away and now my file is passed to the ontario CFO for final approval (which is apparently normal).

I'm real close!!!!
