Shorten PAL Approval Times

I called to see if I could do my interview and was told they don't do them for regular pal apps.

(From BC)

From B.C as well, They're interviewing my references for the regular pal.

I don't have a criminal record or a history of anything violent,
But there definitely would be some police history from my young and stupid days, so likely they're just performing some extra due diligence.

How long did it take you guys to get your course results back? I'm on 3 weeks and nothing. I'll be miffed if this is what holds up my app.

Your 28 days (should) begin on the day Miramichi received your application (even if incomplete.)

Should it take awhile for it to show up online? I was expecting a day or two after I completed it on the phone, but I guess not. I'm thinking about calling in again tomorrow, would that seem pushy since I just called on Tuesday?

It seems they didn't need an interview from me,or to hear from either of my references,The CFC informed me that my app is with the BC CFO for final approval, two days before my mandatory 28 days.

Maybe it was because my references are both long term rpal holders, who knows.

I sure hope the BC CFO can find my humble pal app under all those LTATT requests:rolleyes:

BC Pal

Argh, so I sent my girlfriends application in before she got her RPAL and PAL stuff back from Ontario CFO. She was mad at me for doing this, because she wanted to wait for them to be sent together. I tried to explain the 28 day rule etc, but she wouldn't listen. Now she might be right...

Your application has been received. It is currently being processed. You have been, or will be contacted either by phone or by mail for additional information. Please check the status again at a later date.

We sent the papers from the CFO two weeks later and they still haven't added them to the application.

its entirely ok to do that king just they wont finish it till the cfsc and crfsc course results are returned to you and then you simply fax them in i believe. edit: give them a call

We sent in her PAL/RPAL papers two weeks after the application... they either never received them or just never put them with the application.

Keep calling them and make sure they received the test results and have everything in order. When I faxed my test results in I first faxed a page with my full name and reference # from the website to dummy proof it. Don't worry just call them and it'll get done in time. Once they find your test papers, it's time for the interviews.

I'd like to say thank you again to everyone who helped me with questions in this thread. And to everyone still waiting; hang in there, it takes a while but it's not that bad! Follow these instructions and you'll have card in hand much faster!

Called the CFO today and got in touch with the supervisor who finished processing my app after we hung up and within 20 minutes, it showed up online saying My application completed processing and my license was issued. Now just gotta wait another two weeks to get my Remington 870 :D so stoked!

I just received my PAL (non-restricted) in the mail today and I wanted let everyone know how long it took me:

May 21st - mailed in completed application using regular Canada Post
Jun 19th - application is visible online for the first time and it was received on May 29th
June 26th - license issued 28 days after they received it
July 9th - license arrives in my mail

The time taken from the day the application was received until I received my license in the mail was 41 days. I could have saved a few days of the total time (49 days) by using Xpresspost or something quicker to get the application to Miramichi sooner. I called about once a week to see where the application was and ask if they needed any additional information (they never did) and I am not sure if that sped up the process. My references and I were not contacted for interviews.

Thought I would share my experiences with this, new to this forum.

-Challenged Non restricted and restricted tests June 7, 2012
-Sent in application to Miramichi via Express Post June 8, 2012
-Received in Miramichi June 11, 2012
-Not too sure when the application went online as received, as i wasn't checking too often....although I think it was around June 29 or so.
-Interviewed me via telephone July 6, 2012
-I was able to get one reference to interview at same time as myself since he was sitting next to me when the call came through, my other reference was contacted about an hour later and interviewed.
-Online status changed to "your application has been processed and your license has been issued" July 9, 2012 - exactly 28 days since the application was received.

All in all I am pretty happy with this as it is exactly 28 days, and I didn't have to make calls to the Firearms Center or the CFO. After reading some of the responses on this forum I was a little worried that it would take forever. Now to wait for the license to arrive and go shopping!

Glad I found this forum

Thanks for all the info everyone.

My app is for employment (PAL AND RPAL), and I was scared that calling once per week would make them mad, so I did an online search and found this group.

My status: APP RECEIVED (Expresspost): June 18, 2012

I did my own interview on the phone, and both my references were called.

My common-law partner signed the app - do they ever call spouses who have signed? I told her they might.

As of today (just called), the clerk noted that I called a week ago, and seemed a tad "less than nice" about my checking in regularly. Obviously, they track how often you call in.

A week ago, the clerk was very nice, and she was willing to tell me specifics: my photo was waiting to be scanned to my file, and then it would be sent to my local CFO.

Should I check the online status in 28 business or calendar days? Thanks.

I'll keep the forum posted. Perhaps it will help other applicants who have questions. :)

they received my app on wednesday...now the waiting game begins

is it online yet? nope...wait five minutes, check again...nope, dammit :p ah well, I'm going to Utah for a few days next week, that'll help pass the time.

LOL! I know how it is, and I'm not even at 28 days yet. I'm applying to security companies as we speak, hence my excitement. I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my security career.

Patience is a virtue, and I'm channeling my energy into getting into the best shape of my life.

If they received your app June 18th, it should be online today.
