Shorten PAL Approval Times

Update:

Faxed in test results on the 26th of Sept and did my phone interview the next day. My references called in today and a few minutes later on line status was changed to issued. Total time from acceptance to issuing of license was 36 days. They were very prompt with my entire process. I'm sure if I was in town to fax my results in as soon as they were returned to me I would have been approved sooner. I guess I just have to see how fast they will issue my card and send it out. I'll let you guys know as soon as it arrives. Thanks though for all the info and tips during the appplication process!

October 5th licence in hand! Total 43 days. Not bad since I delayed faxing in the test results.

They approved mine today ! ( PAL + RPAL ) , and will print it on Tuesday :)

-received everything on Aug 7th in Miramachi
- had references call in, and called them 3 times , with bit over a week in between calls. Super friendly and very helpful staff I have to say.
-approved today Oct 5

~ 60 days I'm guessing

Happy Camper !

So I figured I'd post and update my status as time goes. First time applicant for R/PAL.

September 28th 2012 - Challenged and passed both PAL and RPAL tests.
September 29th 2012 - Couriered application forms to Miramichi
October 4th 2012 - Item successfully delivered
October 24th 2012 - Information shows up online as "completed initial processing" and "Now in progress"
November 5th 2012 - Called in and transferred to do interview. Got the application number, called my references and had them call in. 10 minutes later, website says application has been processed and license has been issued.

32 days from reciept of the application. Much faster that I thought it'd be.

Total delay: 79 days

I had to complain to the Québec Ombudsman to get things moving. Full story in French in this thread: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=767976

Hi I am in a situation where I had applied for PAL and then the RCMP transferred my file to CFO here in Quebec and I believe it is the SQ who takes care of it. I called them last week and they told me "Oh I has been long time therefore I will put a priority note on it and you should receive a call within 48 hours or else contact us back". Conversation ended.

Today October 9th 2012 I called back and The individual from SQ told me that my file has been sent for investigation. It will take 6 months to 1 year. When I asked why? he refused to give me any reason. So I called back the RCMP and of course they were wondering what was going on. So they transferred me again to SQ. Sure enough, The same person only this time very rudely he said "Look do not bother calling back before April 2012". I asked if there was any one who was handling my case specifically? he answered NO.
I called directly at CFO and again a women very rudely told me that the person you spoke to last time put a note on your file and my answer wont be any different. So call after April 2013.

What should I do? At least I need to know what exactly is going on. Is there a version of me that I do not know and only SQ knows?
JUNE file was transferred to SQ and Payment was taken around that time frame. No progress from that day on. Non of my references were contacted neither was my wife.

I see you have some kind of experience dealing with these people. Please tell me of a way to deal with this. I need answers and I can not wait till April 2013. Initially I applied because of the CBSA application but I don't favour any refusal because it will play against me.

Please explain to me how "Quebec Ombudsman" work.

Thank you

Regards

Alberta

Sept. 6 Mailed
Sept. 13 Received
Oct. 3 They sent letter asking for more info
Oct. 10 Notice web site shows a request for more info. Called in and faxed info.
Oct. 17 Myself and 1st reference called for interview. 2nd reference cant be found
Oct. 17 Tracked down 2nd reference on email. Turns out he is travelling in Ontario, and does not want to call in while travelling.
Oct. 18 Email continues, reference suggests I should wait until he returns: 1.5 weeks. The toll free number will cost 5 minutes airtime.
Oct. 18 Restrain myself from telling reference true thoughts and suggestions, considering the questions he was about to answer on my behalf. Resort to being persistant but nice ... works!
Oct. 19 Website shows license issued.

36 days including a 1 week 2 day delay due to my own error, not bad.
