Nothing is ''normal'' when it comes to these mouks, just consider yourself lucky ! lf it doesnt show after 2 weeks call them.

Here is my experience waiting for an RPAL

Application received feb 4th

5 weeks later after references called I called to check the progress, was told everything checked out and its been forwarded to the BC CFO

I wait and I wait, lots of other things going on in my life so I wait some more 6 weeks 7 weeks 8 weeks 9 weeks 10 weeks 11 weeks 12 weeks

Finally I start thinking this is taking a long time... I came here and read on another thread (sorry don't recall what one) that someone went down to the BC CFO office in Surrey and they approved them on the spot and explained there was a big back log

Lucky for me I live 5 min away from the BC CFO so I think hey maybe I'll try going there too... its week 13 I go down to the BC CFO tell them I applied for an RPAL and would like to check the status, he asks for my drivers license and say it will take a few min please take a seat... about 10 min later he comes back, tells me everything checks out fine, they have a back log though but he was able to approve me, you should have your license within two weeks... go home and check the status online and it shows as issued. Finally wow I should have went last month LOL

Guess I will go down there today.

Edit: So I went down to the CFO, and a wonderfully kind and courteous lady informed me despite completing my interview and reference checks, and being told my application was complete and sent off to the CFO, I need to provide my Ex-wife's address and phone number so she can be contacted, and that information being missing is was what was holding up my application.

Yes, I provided a letter regarding the divorce, and talked regarding this subject during my interview.

Now the wait begins, again.

I asked about some applications seemingly being fast tracked, and apparently there is criteria that needs to be checked by hand, vs that which only the computer can spit out as complete.

So if you check Yes, expect delays.

And hey - progress!

It just showed up as received and in progress today. So April 5th to the 29th. Not awful, I guess...

And even more progress! I left it sit for a while, nothing happening. Called in today, got forwarded to the Interview department, and got it all done in maybe 10 minutes. Now to get my references to call in, and I ought to be all good!

After you fax in your results what does the status message say? and after how long does the message change?

Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.
Note: An accurately completed firearms licence application normally takes about 45 days to process. Incomplete and inaccurate information can add additional processing time.

Mine changed just a couple of hours after I sent the fax. Maybe sooner but it was a couple of hours after I faxed that I checked the status, it had already changed.

I faxed mine in on Wednesday and it still hasnt changed. I even called them this morning to confirm if they have received it and they said to call back on Tuesday to confirm as it prolly hasnt been scanned it... I guess once I the message saying "your application has completed initial processing...... I could ask them to do my interviews? Correct.

Day 28... this waiting is the sucks. :(

I hear you there. 33 days and counting for me. I've been checking the online status whenever I get a chance. The waiting is hilariously brutal. I was hoping it would have gone through before today but that ship has sailed. I was told they only print and mail PAL's on Fridays. If that's true then I'm at least 2 weeks away from having it in my hands, and that's only if it goes out next week.

Sucks. Last week I put in a deposit on a rifle at LGS. #Hopefully it won't be a problem if my PAL doesn't come in for another month or so.

Proud to say my rpal just arrived today not sure how long it took around the 45 days they say it could so no complaints on my part looks like collection is about to grow boom boom

I can't see it being a problem. I decided not to buy any accessories or firearms until I knew my PAL had been issued. So many things could hang it up so I didn't want to make the wait any worse then it already is. As soon as it goes through though... haha

Did you check Yes to any boxes regarding divorce, criminal past etc?

I have a divorce on record. 56 days and counting for my app. I was told by a staff member at the BC CFO most ex-wives say "NO NO don't give him a gun he's nuts!" but that doesn't stop the application, so I was told I would get mine, there would just be some delays as the background check is what they go by when making a determination to grant a licence or not. Generally there is a 25 day waiting period in the case of having a person need to look at your application like needing to contact an Ex. Mine doesn't live in Canada, so thats going to make it worse.

Up to day 56 they didn't even ask about my ex. I just happened to tell them on day 55 when I went to see what the delay was.

It makes me think I should have just put No, as that was the only questions even remotely relevant to me, and the marriage was a long time ago but took years to go through court since ex is not Canadian or in Canada.

Never married. I was able to check no to all questions. I've lived a quiet life. 33 days isn't too bad. Hopefully next week it goes through. It's just the process from what I've followed here in this thread. Some get it right on the 28th day where others are left in limbo. Seems to be no reason other than luck of the draw.

It seems to be the luck of the draw, my application was straight forward. No criminal past, no ex wives in the closet, in fact my Mother in-law & Sister in-law were my references and still took 93 days and I had to go into the BC CFO office to finally get approved... now waiting for arrival in the mail. One expect any government process to be slow but the inconsistency for seemingly no reason baffles me

Woo hoo!! Now I camp out under the mailbox!
