Shorten PAL Approval Times

sent in my paperwork via registered mail and it was recieved about 2.5 weeks ago. still not showing up online. called in and the person said that they have been getting a lot of mail so thats why it hasnt been entered yet. they did say, however, to call in monday if it isnt showing up yet.

Just a quick update on my last post where I noted that my status changed to issued on May 27th.

I received my card today in the mail, one week from the time my status changed.

So the total time for my licence to be issued from it being received to the time I had it in my hand was 47 days.

Now the credit card is going to get a workout.

Awww yeah! Just signed on and saw my current status is this:

"Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)"

For anyone waiting, I'm telling you, listen to what everyone is saying.
1.) Send your application in via traceable registered mail. Once you see they've received it, give them one day and call in asking about your application's status and if they've received it fine or not. I didn't do this, and it took them almost a month just to open my application and begin it's processing/appear online.

2.) As soon as your application is appearing online, call in and check your status again and they'll ask you to do your quick interview on the phone while they have you on the line already.

3.) Once your interview is done have both of your references call in (if it's for an RPAL) and do their phone interview. I just had my references call in today and now instantly my status changed from "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress." to "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued."

It's that easy!

Good luck everyone!

+1 on BladeTheThrower's advice...Big day for me today, I got my RPAL in the mail!!! It only took 6 days in total from the date of issuance but the wait was killing me. The entire process didn't take too long for me but I feel like being persistent and calling the CFP and CFO in Ontario on a regular basis really helped me move things along, or maybe they just got tired of dealing with me (kidding). Be polite and courteous with the staff and things will eventually happen.

Earlier in this thread someone people were talking about a 3 month wait in BC. I am a first time PAL applicant, does this mean I will have to wait a further 3 months after they open my application? I'm not sure what the process is between the office in Miramichi and my BC CFO is to issue my licence. Thanks!

As a first timer, there is a MANDATORY 28 day waiting period. They can work on it during that time, they could even finish it and have it ready to go early, but NOTHING will happen for a solid 28 days, MINIMUM.

Beyond that, you're the same as anyone else. I got mine in 40 days flat, others have somehow waited 6 months. Just go back to the first page in this thread, read the first post and follow the procedure laid out there... And hope that the CFC and CFO decide to play along. That's all you can really do.

Good luck!

And you can't even talk to the person who has your file. You just have to deal with the useless disinformation officers who can't do anything. I wonder if our MLA could raise hell about it?

Wow, thats the opposite experience I had. Every time I called I was able to proceed to another step in the process, and then the next waiting period.

I received my PAL/RPAL today @ day 80 since my application was received.

I went in today to get my ATT @ the CFO office, was told it would take 5 minutes. Then 5 minutes later was told there are system problems and it would have to go into the pile of applications waiting thus would be a couple weeks at least.

Sigh.

Keep on waiting guys :)

My interview is done as well as my 2 references. I called 2 days after the interviews to ask if there was any more info I could provide. They said it's now passed on the the BC CFO...

I'm just copying my post on the LTATT BC thread because I'm lazy
Kathy at the BC CFO office in Surrey is great! (no idea if that's how you spell her name)
- I mailed my RPAL application in early March
- CFP status said app received March 14, 2013
- After the 3 interviews the CFP, by phone, said it was on the BC CFO desk and I could not talk to him/her. (about May 8?)
- I waited a few weeks then drove to the BC CFO office last Friday afternoon with absolutely no expectations.
- Kathy talked to me behind the bullet proof glass window for a minute then came out into the waiting area where we could talk face to face. I had asked if I could pick up my RPAL so she was explaining the whole process to me. I know the process but I knew the cost of listening for a few minutes is far less than the potential gain of having her actually do something
- Kathy excused herself and came back in about 5 minutes to say she had been on the phone with CFP and my RPAL was approved! (I couldn't stop smiling)
- We talked a bit more and she said "You're probably gonna buy a pistol at a local store for your first purchase, right?" I said yes then said that I guess I'd have to get a LTATT to bring it home
- This allowed her to "teach" me about the difference between a STATT and a LTATT. In the process, she asked if I had proof of membership at a club. I said I did and had already emailed a scan of it to the CFP. She said she had seen that on file but it was hard to read. I went out to my car, brought it in and handed my PCDHFC membership (pink) form to her.
- Once more, with a smile, she excused herself for a few minutes and returned with my LTATT!

This is far too long but I just wanted to share a positive story because they are rare.
Summary: 78 days for new RPAL with 2 "Yes" responses

When were you in there?

With out wanting to rain on anyones ''Whosacleverboythen'' parade, bottom line these civil servants , kept in a lifestyle provided by our hobby should deal with every app as its received, not put ones that actually require some work beyond the magic lantern to a ''when we get &*^%ing round to it pile''

Bottom line, i WAS going to spend X on new guns, now i have a different addiction and will buy 1 x 1911 as and when i get my ticket, being that the Enfield addiction is all brought privately there is no tax payable, so im not the only one getting penalized here. l doubt im alone, shame these fucwits don't get it!
