My application has been processed and the license issued. I called the CFC and asked for my PAL# but they said they can't give it over the phone, I need the license in hand before I can purchase firearms/ammo. Have they changed this or was this just someone giving me the run-around?

I've now seen this posted a few times here. Makes you wonder if something has changed or if it's dependent on the person you are speaking to.

I think someone mentioned in this thread before that CFC can't tell you the number, but your CFO will. So if you would like to find out what your license number is before your card arrives, try calling your CFO directly (have your license application # ready), or ask CFC to transfer you to your provincial CFO.

Good catch, I didn't notice that, there was a recent post that Nfld CFO would not give it out. In that case I would still call the CFO and try someone else, even though those offices are a lot smaller than CFC, and less likely to have as many different responses as you see with CFC. If NOtario CFO gives it out then anyone should.

At the very least, calling gets you a fair bit more info.

My RPAL application process so far (from Alberta):
Dec 21: Sent application in the mail
Dec 23: Application received by CFC
Jan 11: CFC called me and both of my references. My girlfriend received a phonecall earlier in the day which she did not answer, which may have been them. They didn't follow up with her.
Jan 17: I called the CFC to inquire and they told me that they had everything they needed and my application had already been forwarded to the CFO for final approval at the end of my mandatory waiting period.

Hopefully all goes smoothly and I'll be approved this week and have it in my hands by next. *fingers crossed*

For reference, the questions they asked my references were mainly regarding any violent tendencies I may have and whether or not they thought I was at risk of violent behaviour.

My restricted PAL was issued on Jan. 06 and arrived in the mail today, Jan.17
So the last leg of the journey has come to end end.
I'm officially no longer a second class citizen!
Thanks to all for help and advice.

Looks like they're working quickly right now. Exactly 28 days for my new PAL/RPAL.

Dec. 20 application rec'd by CFC.
Jan. 17 licence issued.

I did not contact the CFC at any time. Just told my references to call in right after they finished interviewing me (Jan. 4). Thanks everyone for the info on how the application is processed. Makes the wait more bearable.

I am 1 day behind you for PAL-> RPAL upgrade... not approved yet...Probably because I live in Ontario :{

Dec 21 -> app recieved
Jan 5 -> myself and refs called.

Still waiting. Gonna call soon I think.

And I still wait for my stamped CFSC results... I am now at 9 weeks since my instructor submitted them. 28 day wait has long passed. Have called twice and have been given two different stories. First was all the November ones have been done and my wait is because of CP, The other a non-pleasant lady named Deb who told me I was looking more at 6 weeks because of the holidays.
Anyone else experience a long wait for their stamped results?
If there not in this week next Monday I'm calling and asking (nicely) for a manger or supervisor.

If I recall, we took the tests the same weekend, Nov 13. Correct? And if that's right, you are way over due. Definitely try and light a fire under someone there.

Yep. I did restricted so Nov 13, 14. How long ago did you receive yours? I just called Deb again, she seemed a lot nicer this time and explained they were running behind but Novembers are done and I hopefully will receive it soon. But they aren't filed yet so she can't confirm anything for me.

Finally received my license in the mail yesterday, and order placed for my first hand gun today.

Thanks for the tips
