Unless you were given an extension or a direct line, you have no choice but to call the 1800 number.
Called in today.
Date mailed: Dec 17th
Date received: Dec 22
Date online: Jan 16
Date payment taken: Jan 19 (this was also the last day of my 28 day period)
Called in: Jan 22
They told me they were ready for reference checks. My reference is calling in in 20 mins.

WTF? Mine was received two weeks before yours.
I'm an immigrant to Canada from the UK. And the same thing happened with the emigration process. In my experience the processing times for ANYTHING in Canada is almost completely random.

my app showed online same day as yours but when I called yesterday I was told to try again in 3-4 weeks. How long ago did you moved to Canada?
I moved almost 8 years ago and I know what you mean about random processing times.

Mine was received 11 days earlier, I also called today and once again reiterated that I am waiting for my Rpal to apply for a job and have already missed one posting while waiting. She let me know they are still not ready for my references to call and to try back in 7-10 days.
I don't know why mine was done so quickly. My app showed online on Jan 16th. Called on 22nd and asked the lady if there were any problems and if my references could call in. She told me all they were waiting for were reference checks.
I called my reference, she called in and 10 minutes later I was approved.
It might also be worth mentioning that I am 22, never married, no relationship breakdown in last 3 years etc. My application was pretty "boring" so to speak. Beyond reference checks there was nothing really for them to inquire about.

Called again today, they made mention of me calling recently so there is definately tracking of phone calls going on. Still no luck, I hung up before I got mad, she said they havent even transferred it to the cfo yet. Frustrating beyond belief that you go through all these steps to make sure everythings in order, express post etc. And then someone two weeks behind you is approved first. No fault of their own obviously, would just be nice if there was a little more consistancy and transparency.
I wish I could help you guys out some more but I really don't have anything to say.

Mine was a young unmarried application with no criminal convictions, no precious relationships etc etc so mine probably went into a "check references" pile straight away.
