Shorten PAL Approval Times

Sent in completed pal application July 21, realized after sending that the stubag at shoppers gave me passport photos not pal photos. Hopefully 1cm x .5cm doesn't effect things but we will see. Will update as it progresses. Alberta, first time applicant so at least 28 days.
I would just call in and explain what happened. If there is a problem with your application don't wait for them to tell you, it will add a lot of time to your application. Maybe they will say you need to send in the proper size photo and you can do it right away so it won't add any extra time to your application.
They had no problems with my passport photos for my pal, or rpal upgrade (6 months apart, same passport photos). But I agree on phoning them, if you wait to hear from them it can delay you 2 weeks they do everything by snail mail.
As mentioned in my previous post, it depends on your province. Some provinces allow you instructors to give students a copy of their results the day of their course test. My courses were on Sunday with full paperwork sent out the following Monday with course results. Ontario does not, along with maybe 1 or 2 other provinces. Contact your local MP and complain if you dislike it, it is not a legal requirement to do so it is your local CFO flexing his authority, and with no complaints comes no change.
Shoppers doesn't do a "pal picture " that's why you got a passport photo. I know this it too late for you but you can take a picture with a phone and print it out at home and just cut out the size you need, it doesn't need to be an actual photo

Mine seems to be taking waaay to long.
-First time PAL applicant in Toronto
-Sent application to Mirimichi via xpresspost and it was received March 02
-March 20. it showed online as "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date".
I have called a several times and told it is not missing anything and that my references do not need to call in as it is just a PAL and has been passed on to the CFO and they now have to finish it. I was given the name and number of the person in charge of my file and called several times and no one ever picks up or returns my messages. this is very frustrating
Is this normal?

my question is that after i send my application without my proof of passing the firearms course. how should i indicate my proof to be attached to my application when i do send the firearms course results?

Don't think they specifically do PAL photos. The guy at Shopper's basically took the printed photo and cut it to the right dimensions and then showed the measurements to me with a ruler
It surprised me to find out that they (some?) actually do. I had originally asked for a Passport photo, but with my glasses on, and said it wasn't for a Passport. My plan was to cut it down to size. Long story short; they asked, I told, they referred to a small binder, and I got a photo with the correct head size and LxW dimensions. $16 later, of course.

July 19, 2016 I called the hotline and asked if there was anything missing from application, they told me to have a reference call in
July 25, 2016 licence issued
This thread was a great source of info, if I hadn't called in who knows how long it would have been until someone contacted one of my references. Make sure everything is in order and follow up with them. I probably called a total of 3 times to see if they required any other information. Each time I called the person I spoke with was very courteous and didn't seem irritated about me calling.

It showed up online as "In Progress" on the 25th. I called and confirmed no missing info. I didn't need to interview and was told they needed to talk to only one reference. My reference called the following day (26th). It still shows as "In Progress" online. What is the usual time it takes for that to change?
Did you call the CFP phone number (not the bc CFO). The same day mine showed online, I called them and was told they didn't need to interview me, needed to interview one reference. I had my reference call in the next day. They were super helpful on the phone. They specifically told me it would make things much faster if my reference called in. Told me what to do to move my application along. Also BC first time PAL/RPAL applicant. Aug 5 will be 28 days since they received it for me so I hoping to see it approved and issued shortly after that.

Decided to go with this thread as I realized The 28 days don't start until they get the application at CFP so I mailed it in today without my CFSC stamped copy. Will call them once I have seen they have received my application and I have received my CFSC copies and ask them where to FAX them to. Hopefully cut this process down by quite a bit of time. Will keep you guys updated and it's great seeing everyone's experiences and all the great info on here!

Called in for my fourth bi weekly check up, was told that my app has been with the bc cfo since June 23rd. This time was offered a transfer to bc cfo. After 35 more minutes on hold my call was answered again by an agent in mirimichi who told me to wait another month ( after waiting for 132 days already ) then call back. Fortunately, a few hours later I received a call from the bc cfo and the only question he had was are you currently employed... Anyways finally this journey I began in February is now over, day 132 license issued. My advice is that there is such a thing about being too honest, the entire hold up was because I answered yes to a question about job loss, in the last 2 years I've changed jobs 3 times, which I laid out in point form like a resume including reasons for leaving and contact info for supervisors. Your employment situation is not something they are going to investigate so just say no on the app and save yourselves months worth of unnecessary delay.
