Shorten PAL Approval Times

Your MP will tell you to wait for 45 days (your "next Thursday" is only day 38.), and even them getting involved will likely result in the CFC quoting their time frame telling you to wait, quoting the fact you delayed it.

Being a firearms owner in Canada, get use to being patient with the government. Just wait till you get an ATT and registrations to wait for.

Ok, so my 45 days would be August 25, and I will add 15 more days to the wait time because that's how long my 1st reference waited before calling (Note to self: don't blindly trust family member for being trustworthy ever again). That would be September 8. I will go see my MP on September the 8th then.

I also read another method to get my application rolling.

Go to your local Provincial Court House and ask the clerk of the court for the form that causes a judicial review of the CFO's decision (or lack of action). Tick off "Failure to issue a licence" and file the papers. It's free. The CFO will be notified of the court action and the will spin into high gear or spend 1000s on lawyers. It will never get to court. As soon as they produce the desired results, withdraw your application to the Courts. The firearms act allows for review at anytime if an individual believes they are wronged by the system.

When I checked, it isn't free. It apparently cost $200 now.

How long does it take to get the license mailed?

My application was approved and it said my license was issued last Monday (the 8th, 28th day of waiting). Would that mean it would be printed the following Friday (12th) and I should expect to get it this Friday-ish?

201 days and counting. I called in today and she said call in 4-6 weeks if I haven't heard back. She means they will do nothing. This process ridicules law abiding, honest citizens. If you can get around answering any of the 5 questions do so, as they will take their sweet time. I am certain that I will miss this hunting season and the application was received in Jan. I have called and been polite several times but it is like talking to a robot with scripted lines. Arrrggggg.......

Did you ask what they're waiting on?

Ya, but they respond with it is with the CFO and I don't know. She even put me on hold like they do every time, as though something happened. I have been transparent and I expect the RCMP be as well, but they are secretive as though I don't know. If i'm at 201 days then everything with the CFO is over 4-5 months late, and that is just not the case. Who needs to be trusted, and how does this build good public opinion of the RCMP? My friends and family that I would hunt with are pissed.

If I were in your position, I'd try contacting my MP. I've seen references to doing so in threads on here but have glossed over the responses. If you're polite about it, I don't see how it could hurt.

BC first time PAL/RPAL

July 4 - sent via reg mail
July 8 - received at Miramichi
July 25 - showed up online, called in and was instructed to have one reference call in to speed things up (no interview required for me)
July 26 - reference called in
Aug 5 - licenced issued (exactly 28 days since they received the application)

Now just waiting for the mail

UPDATE: Received card in the mail yesterday. That's 40 days from application received in Miramichi to card in hand!

I concur. Leadingmotion NEEDS to contact his MP. Many MPs will help us with following up on federal level applications (ex: Passport, EI, Immigration, Tax, Pensions) on your behalf.

dont call once a month or so, call them once a week , be overly polite and ask to be transferred to the CFO, when you call the 1-800 number all you get is an information agent that really does nothing but transfer calls and read info off a computer screen, i called on thursdays, cant remember the exact time, but my pal took 91 days, and upgrade to rpal was 28 days or so, i had a friend that took over a year, and i know multiple people that did it in the exact legislated time period, , i dont know where abouts you are located , but the extension number for the BC CFO is 9530, go through the phone prompts and try them?, avoid the call centre people next time and go to the source,

and before you or someone says that may not be the right cfo, when they say on the desk of the cfo, they mean in the computer, my PAL was approved through the NB CFO and my Rpal was done through Manitoba`s, and im from BC

at any rate, hope you get it sorted soon

to a degree they will help, but could also end up doing nothing but annoy the CFO, and i bet they could come up with any number of reasons to deny a PAL/RPAL, this is the cfo after all, is in the back pocket of the RCMP, and they(rcmp) were given control over firearms laws from the idiot PM, ... as much as it sucks to say, patience is key when dealing with the CFO.

There is also another ways Leadingmotions can deal with this PAL delay. Found this on here while researching PAL delays.

I don't think the CFO would be so petty as to deny a PAL/ RPAL because he was annoyed, especially now that a Member of Parliament is involved. From all the stories I read about MPs getting involved with PAL licence, the application was quickly approved soon after they got involved.

At this rate, I think all CFSC/ CRFSC instructors across the country need to teach their students how to look up and contact their Member of Parliament after 45 days.

BC First time PAL/RPAL, no criminal record or yes checkmarks.

July 22 - Received in Miramichi
August 3rd - CC Charged, Application appeared online
August 5th - Called in, told to get one reference to call in, no personal interview
August 8th - Reference called in
August 19th - Issued

I did check the status at 1 am so it may have even been issued on the 18th. Either way, following the guide laid out in the OP worked wonders for me.

Now the long wait till I can go get my GSG STG 44 and take it to the range!

Just as a follow up, I got my licence in the mail last thursday. I had called them back the day after I faxed my paperwork back to them and I was asking about the interview process, they mentioned that there wasn't an interview for the applicant that would be conducted and they only needed to call one of my references, not both.

I was seriously expecting this process to take a million years, but they got it done really quickly. Total time from recipt of my application was just over a month.

I'm at this stage: "If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)" and it's been 2 weeks since that was posted.

Whenever I call that number they say they are closed - and then state they are open 9-5. I'm calling them between 9-5... Is there another number I can call or do they just fail to state that its atlantic time?
