Shorten PAL Approval Times

Has there been a slow down in processing time? My application arrived in Miramichi over 2 weeks ago and it still hasn't showed up on the site : /

Ok, Quebec resident here who sent application for PAL/RPAL with one question marked yes (breakdown of significant relationship). Looking for some input:

Application received: 2016/08/15 (registered mail) and marked as "completed initial processing"

I marked yes to the aforementioned question on my application because earlier this year my wife and I were living apart for roughly 6 months, no legal separation was filed though. We have since reconciled and are living together again for a few months at the time I filled out and sent my application. I explained this in an additional letter attached to my application. My wife signed the letter as well as myself to state that we were living together again and our brief separation earlier this year was an unfortunate bump in the road.

Can someone shed some light on how this might be interpreted by those reviewing my application? Should I be expecting additional interviews? Anyone who has had a similar experience?

I called the 1-800 today (October 4) and they told me my application is now with the Quebec CFO office. I was transferred to QC CFO office and spoke to a very polite operator. He looked up my application and I was told I am in the "final stage" of approval, it's with the CFO and my references should be contacted in the next 10 days. Is this accurate? If so I'm quite impressed by how quickly this has gone through but I'd like to know if I should expect a delay due to the "yes" answer on my application?

Thank you in advance for any insight into my situation. This forum has been enormously helpful!

I mailed my application in on August 20th.

Online it said: Application Received on: 2016/09/12

Now it says: Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

Anybody have a reference point for how long this last stage will take? I'm in Ontario.

It means they are waiting out your 28 day wait period which started on 2016/09/12. Once 28 days is done it should changed to "approved and has been issued" then you should receive it in mail within 2 weeks.

Permit issued! 51 days total from date they signed for it. They called me yesterday for my interview and called both references today for theirs and issued in within a few hours after the last reference interview. Really impressed how quickly they got it done and my "yes" answer wasn't an issue whatsoever. Shows it's really worth calling in and checking up on it.

Took mine about 3 weeks to show up online. Reference contacted on day 29 and i called in right after. Was told that everything is good and after the woman on the phone said she was just completing my application package to electronically submit it, she said it was now being held by the BC CFO which she said happens about half the time. My application was received by the CFC in Miramichi on July 4th and it is still "in progress".

Well ####.

application showed up online, I called them up I was excited I was 100% that there were no mistakes, and yup apparently something was wrong with my guarantor apparently the label has to have the full name of the guarantor, so they told me they sent me my application back... Like come on, its bull#### there is literally no space to fill out someones full name on that small label. :-(. Looks like ill have to wait another 50 weeks or something. (over exaggerating but you know how it is...)

Well I was surprised to get a call from the Farmer I work with on weekends, he got his in 6 weeks. They called him 2 weeks ago because he forgot to answer one question, so he answered it on the phone. Two weeks later he had it. Anyone else I have known had to wait 3 months for a first time PAL.

Renewals seem to be quick 2 -3 weeks.

Check the wait times thread, people seem to be getting theirs in under 30 days.

Took my PAL course November 2014, sent away application on November 22 with every i dotted and t crossed. Fast forward to march 2016, I get my PAL in the mail. It took 16 months and around 10 phone calls for me to get my license. I did have contact with the police when I was 17 (out too late at night and mom called them) so they said that slowed the process down. I hope that my first experience was a special circumstance and that it wont take as long when I send my paperwork away for my RPAL...

Sent my application in August 20th.

Application Received on: 2016/09/12

Today, Oct 10th I received this message:

Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

So excited! So I guess I could call in and request my PAL number for online purchases?

I wouldn't risk having the firearm arrive before your PAL does in the mail. And some retailers require a scanned or faxed copy of your PAL sent to them before they will ship your item.

By the time the firearm arrives assuming that its restricted, he'd have his PAL/RPAL in the mail.

You may be right but I'm just giving my opinion. I ordered online from my LGS without card in hand. Explained that it was approved and I would be receiving it in mail soon and they held my order and didn't process it until my PAL came in. Then I went and picked it up. My point is you've waited this long, why risk it over 10 more days. But of course that's just me.

Hey Guys,
New to the Forum and wanted to share my experience.
I did my PAL/RPAL course back in 2012 but never got around to sending my application in until last month. (I have no idea why i waited so long)
It was received on 12/9/16.
Day 9 - Appeared online 21/9/16
Day 10 - Credit card charged 22/9/16
Day 17 - Both references called on the 29th but only 1 answered
Day 18 - Second ref. called in and was told they didn't need to interview him because it was already approved.
Day 28 - Today the online status changed to "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued.... "

I can't wait to get started!! I've already got a safe bolted into the basement floor.

Good point, no point of risking your licenses over such a small thing. Espiceally after it takes centuries to get your licenses. haha

My guess is no. Even if your card was printed today, Canada Post would take longer than Friday to deliver it. My approval date was August 31, card was printed on Sept 2 and I had it in my hands on Sept 8. The OP says cards are printed on Fridays, and Sept 2 is a Friday so it seems like that information is still up to date.
