Shorten PAL Approval Times

Gents - don't ask them if they want your references to call in. Of course they're going to tell you "no", as they want the process to work at their pace.

Go to the online site and get the reference number for your application. Have one of your references call in, tell them that they are a reference for application number #########X (whatever your number is), and they should do the interview right then and there. Takes 5 minutes, according to my reference that called in. Only one reference needs to call, and you personally will not need to do an interview (unless you answered 'yes' to any of the background questions on the application, or you have skeletons in your closet that they found out about during the their background check on you).

Sometimes you gotta gently force the issue.

JoeBloggins, your reference called the SQ or the RCMP? I heard the RCMP is accomodating while the SQ isn't.

Note that I am in Ontario. My reference called the 1-800 number on the RCMP firearms program web site.

Is there a requirement in Quebec to have references separately interviewed by the SQ? If so, apologies for sowing confusion.

we call the same 1-800-731-4000
Ill have my reference call in tomorrow and we shall see

Thanks :)

Hey Crankypunk... any update?

Well one of them called in to 1-800-731-4000 and was told he will be contacted by the Quebec people in due and they don't do the interview themselves.
Not sure if someone other from Quebec can confirm if they had the same experience but I saw on other boards similar experiences for Quebec even if it's from last year.

Too bad that our hands are tied... again a Quebec thing. I'll be waiting the 43-day mark, then file a complaint to the Protecteur du Citoyen (43 and not 45 since they need 2 days to process the request)! Hopefully I won't get there.

For Ontario at least, things are moving quickly right now.

Jan 21 - completed RPAL course (already had PAL)
Jan 23 - mailed application to Miramichi (regular mail)
Jan 27 - application received (according to website)
Feb 10 - received stamped test results back from Ontario CFO (less than 3 weeks after completing course)
Feb 14 - application appeared online
Feb 14 - faxed test results
Feb 15 - one reference called in; then I called in and confirmed that was all they needed (just the one reference interview, no interview with me)
Feb 24 (today) - exactly 28 days - I called in just as a prompt to ensure they had everything they needed from me, and a very nice lady approved it while I was on the phone - licence issued

I'll never know for sure, but I have a feeling that last phone call on Day 28 (today) ensured that it got done that day. A "polite but squeaky wheel" sometimes gets the grease.

thats wrong info on their part, the 1-800 for the canadian firearms program is indeed the number a reference would call, not some other organization, i would call back and ask to be transferred to the cfo, when i upgraded in BC, i called in, got my reference number gave it to my references and they called in and voila rpal issued the next day

Ok so I just called again now..
Asked to be transferred to the CFO.. After a good 15 mins wait I spoke to them and it was indeed the SQ firearms department.
I said I would like to have my contacts call in for the interviews would that work out? he said my file was next to be sent to the interview team and that they would contact myself and the contacts I left anytime in the next days/weeks ..Monday to Friday between 11am and 8pm. Said I have to wait in line.. He also mentioned if they called in they would get the same answer and we need to just wait and be patient.

They might just be busy or short handed at the moment. My CRFSC application was received Feb 2nd and wasn't showing up online until Feb 24th.

No more NR transfers to process, far fewer ATTs, online license renewals alleviating a significant portion of the boring data entry, you would think they would be setting land speed records for processing times, instead it seems like its the slowest its ever been. And for all Harpers talk of the cost and waste associated with our gun control program, he didn't cut a nickel from any of their budgets.

I Sent out for my pal Dec 2 2016 and received my Pal Jan 15 2017 online status showed it was approved and issued Jan 1st 2017. They never contacted any references just called me because I didn't check off the box if I've been with any other spouses or partners in 2 years. Which I said no being that I've been married for 13 years lol. She said that's all I need to get this done and that call came Dec 28th 2016. So was a very short process for myself. Paid with money order .

Did my online license renewal for the first time this year and bing-bang-boom! They were lightening fast, I almost couldn't believe it when my new card came in the mail so soon after submitting my renewal electronically.

Did something like this happened to somebody before while using Xpresspost?
