Shorten PAL Approval Times

AFAIK, every province other than Ontario requires proof or a statement of purpose. Some provincial CFOs will accept intents to join a range while others will request proof of membership. When you call your provincial CFO to get your license number, ask them their policy.
That's good news Live in Ontario, kinda hard to find a range to join. Each one seems to have a waiting list and the membership fees seem to be very high.

Yes, the increase in PAL holders is causing issues with range access. Just remember you can't shoot restricted firearms anywhere other than a range but Ontario apparently will not hold the transfer until you get one. You probably realize that but I just wanted to make it clear I'm talking about transfers.

It's the plight of the new PAL holder, ranges within reach are either too pricey or they've frozen memberships.

If it's with the provincial CFO the CFP office has nothing to offer you on the status. Call your provincial CFO office.

I asked the woman to transfer me to the local cfo office but she just cut me off and told me to wait a few weeks and then call back. I also tried the extention 9530 with no luck. I'll try em again this week.

What my instructor does: Spray transparent but different colour on the envelop. Make it different looking.

Enclose EVERY document CFC need to approve your application, don't lost anything.
An official letter to explain any possible situation, in case you think if there is something may causes them to refuse your application, explain it CLEARLY.
Be polite but not over.

Have some guarantor with good social position to sign for you: I got my doctor and a lawyer to sign for me.

Make your application nice and neat. Enclose your photo in a small transparent bag, staple it with your application.

RPAL & PAL (First time):

Sent application with course paperwork on the 1st of May.

Application received on the 8th of May. (Didn't know until it showed up online).

Showed up online as "completed initial processing and is now in progress." and money deducted from CC on the 9th of June.
Called in to see if my application is ready for references to call in for their interviews on the same day and was told it was ready. I had reference #1 call in for the interview and everything seems to be in order so far and was told that the second reference was not required to be interviewed. I understand the application gets sent to the CFO's office in BC afterwards for final approval.

Anyone know what the estimated wait time is until the CFO in BC approves? Does it help if I phone their office someday next week? I've read many threads online with ALOT different experiences, good and bad lol.

Update: Called in on the 12th of June and was told my application just finished scanning and getting sent over to BC CFO today.
June 19th: Called the toll number and was told my application is still with BC's CFO and if they need anything "they'll" call me. Also told to call back in a few weeks as usual. Apparently they also keep record of how many times you call and ask about the application status as the woman who answered with a slight attitude made it clear that I was pestering them somehow by asking about my business. This wait game is starting to eat at me lol.

June 26: Called the toll number and asked them to transfer me to BC CFO office and they did immediately. Waited on hold for a few minutes then had a VERY helpful man ask me for my info (dob, name, address etc.). Put me on hold for a few minutes then came back and told me my application was held up in a que for approval which he did over the phone. I then asked for my Pal number to complete my range membership and he was quick to do so and explained the "long term" ATT to me more clearly. He also gave me the offices email and advised me to email my range membership for a faster response. (57 days from mailing).

WTH?!?!? Please don't listen to this and definitely don't do it!

Just send in a properly completed application, use trackable mail and wait until it shows up online.

Once you see it online (up until this point there is absolutely nothing you can do), call them up and ask if there is anything else they require from you. They will 99/100 times tell you to have one or both of your references call in and provide you with the application number.

DON'T spray anything on your envelope, don't put stuff in plastic baggies just be normal, accurate and stay on top of the progress.

Saskatchewan
May 9 - mailed application by regular post
June 20- appeared online. Received date may 16
June 20- cc charged
June 26- phoned in. I was told no reference needed. Photo is getting scanned and application will be sent to CFO.

Good so far. Spoke with a nice lady. She told me that I can call anytime if I have any concerns(I was surprised,as I read they can be rude at times)

I was thinking they might need my references call in as I am
an immigrant and been in canada for only 7 years.

That's what our instructor did. Everyone in our classmates' envelop is sprayed transparent BLUE. And apparently it works.

Well... Probably because it seemed more obvious than the others and attracted the one who opened it. :D

Anyway... That's 20 yrs ago.

Hi Guys, I have a quick question about checking for my application online.
I sent mine in May and they received it on the 23rd on May. Is the web site for checking "case sensitive" ie; should I be typing in the information as capitals letters or as normal? Also, I was born in Germany, do I have to put the country along with he town or just the name of the town?
I've been checking for my app online for a couple of days now and all I get is "Error 1: we have nothing that matches....". Should I just keep waiting? I'm kind of paranoid that I did something wrong and they aren't processing my application.

Thanks, any help is appreciated.

Hi Guys,
Finally get approved for PAL only here is my timeline:
Apr.7th regular mailed the package.
Apr.13th received by rcmp.
Called Jun.5th and was told the application is with BC CFO.
Got a letter issued on Jun.5th requesting non-criminal record or permanent resident card since I landed less than 5 years.
Faxed in the PR card next Monday and called and was told it takes 5 days for the faxed info. to BC CFO.
Checked online this morning the 27th it says the license is issued.

So overall if the additional information was not needed total time would be 2 days less than 2 full month. And yes, call in when the application is with local CFO definitely make them pay attention to your case.
And for new immigrants, make sure to have a copy PR card in your application no matter how long you have been in Canada. I have been in Canada for 9 years started as a student I thought they would have all my record but no, still need that info.

try your city+province. They did the same to my account as well. Call them and ask why you can`t access your account and double check all security questions and they will fix it.

I am from a different country too. I only put the town I listed on the application and it worked. On the paper application i had town and country both mentioned. It is not case sensitive.

Calgary
