Shorten PAL Approval Times

Restricted...mine is in the same boat too. Didn't get a positive response this morning. They said the 45 days, although it includes the day it arrives (not processed into comps), is only for non restricted. It seems the answer gets worse every time I call :p

4 months

It took my license 4 months, after I emailed and explained I was joining the CF and wanted a bit of practice. Their response was to give me my license but to tell me I was "lucky" I got my license considering my wait time.

So.. I decided to get my tracking number out for my package. It looks like they signed for my application on the 25th of Feb. The website says "Application Received" on March 4th. A one week difference.

So again.. The question is, "When does the clock start counting?". I'm pretty sure they don't start counting until its processed, not when its received/signed for.

From the original post:
"The 28 day waiting period starts from the date the application is received by the CFC, not the date it appears online. (Staff at CFC may advise it is the online date but this information is wrong.) The 28 day wait provision is statutory, it is specified in the Regulations to the Firearms Act. The time starts from date the application is made, and that is the date received by CFC (not the date mailed) and this is the practice the CFC follows, however not all clerks understand this."

Someone may have made an error in posting your receipt date but that does not change the CFC policy or practice.

So.. We should get anyone that send expresspost or registered mail to post the signed for date and the "Application Received" date to see if I'm the only one. I'm pretty sure we will see that most are like mine.

Not that it really matters for my app, its still not approved yet. Its still going to be faster than I expected. A friend of mine had his app take 4 months..

You have drawn a conclusion based on your single experience. There is no need for a survey, there are already many posts in this thread that have confirmed the receipt date starts the 28 days.

Actually Calalta.. I have read through all the posts and seen it both ways. I'm willing to bet that when the CFC is busy the dates don't match. Although we really have no idea when they are busy or not.

It might be a useful exercise to help make a trend as to when they are busy.

you can take a punjabi out of punjab but u can never take punjab out of a punjabi.
I am not a punjabi, but I have many friends who are.

Can anyone tell me what the approximate wait time is for the Saskatchewan CFO to approve a PAL to RPAL application? I was told by the lady that answered when I called the main number that my application had been passed on mid last week. I have a firearm on hold and am getting anxious to use my own handgun instead of the club gun.

Thanks for any info!

Followed the advice here (after sending it by snail mail) and it's en route as of Friday. Exactly 5 weeks after sending it in, and 29 days after they received it.

Good info.
