Shorten PAL Approval Times

on the site I get the message saying my RPAL has been issued but they have yet to bill me... is this normal or does it mean they havent actually printed it yet??

Do you have a PAL?

yep, had it for a few years

If you have a PAL or POL no fees and no 28 day waiting period.
If the site shows it has been issued then it is probably in the mail now.

ffolkes. I know your pain. My license was issued 3 or 4 weeks ago. If it is any conciliation, I received mine today so it should be soon for you. I think someone else in the posts below indicated that they received theirs this week as well. Wanted to pass it along that they are coming.

FYI to all applicants and those new to the process--

-received my PAL results in the mail 07/06/2011, my RPAL results were not enclosed, found this strange seeing that my CFSC and CRFSC were completed on the same weekend (06/04/2011-06/05/2011), PAL results were stamped June 15 receive date

-received a call last Thursday from a fellow classmate that took the courses the same time I did and mentioned my RPAL results were stapled together with his results! RPAL results were stamped June 17 received date

long story short = CFO messed up sending back my course results (I had to pick my RPAL results in Burlington from Mississauga) so it seems the CF office is severely under-staffed and this clerical error could have resulted in more of a clusterf@#k had it not been been for a fellow classmate who called me to indicate he received my tests as well.

Quick question...When it says "Your application has been processed and your license has been issued. If you have not received your license within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Center Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)" does that mean that the license has been actually mailed to my at my home address or is it off to the CFO for them to play around with it for as long as they like before they send it to me. I started this process in January....

It is or will be on its way. Congrats! If it was still with the CFO, it would say that it was still in process. Now if memory serves me, I believe they print the cards each Friday but should be there within 2 weeks.

Update on my RPAL/ATT

My RPAL Upgrade experience in Ontario!!!

Wife took the PAL course on Oct 23/24th 2010
Both of us took the RPAL course on Oct 30th 2010

Total cost for wife’s PAL/RPAL courses= $244.00
Total cost for my RPAL course (minus book as she bought one) =$130 ($142.00 with book)

Received marks back in mail from Ontario CFO on Dec. 20th 2010-12-23

Sent in marks and applications on Dec. 29th 2010(Too much going on to do any sooner)

Total cost for wife’s PAL & RPAL application = $80.00
Total cost for my RPAL upgrade application = $0.00

Informed that the Frontenac Rifle and Pistol Club in Kingston, ON isn’t accepting new members until Mid-May. Cruddler!!!! The way it is going, I may not get my licence until just before then anyway!

CFC received my application on Jan 6, 2011
CFC received my wife’s application on Jan 5, 2011(Funny, they were in the same envelope)

Both called in to confirm the receipt of application on Jan 13th 2011 and found that both applications were missing one checked box. Found out that letters to that effect had been sent out yesterday. Both corrected this oversight on the phone and fixed the problem. Letters requesting further information finally arrived on Feb. 11th!! They were both stamped with postage on January 13th and post marked at the post office on Jan. 15th. How in the hell does it take almost a month to get from N.B. to Ontario??!!!!

I did my interview on the phone at the same time (Thurs. Jan 13th).
My references called in and did their interviews on Fri. Jan. 14th.

My wife tried to do her interview at the same time as well, but it was at lunch and the interviewer wasn’t at their desk.

Wife called back on Fri. Jan 14th and did her interview.
Wife’s references called in and did their interviews on Tues. Jan 18th.

I called in to see how things were going on Wed. Jan 26th and was told that everything was complete and just waiting final approval/sign-off and mailing.

Wife’s status changed to issued/mailed on thurs. Feb 3rd after the 28 day waiting period.
Mine was changed to issued/mailed on Monday Feb. 7th !!!! 32 days after receiving it for an upgrade from a PAL with no mandatory waiting period!!!

Got both of them in the mail on Wed. Feb 16th only 3 1/2 months after we took the restricted course!!! Nice work on them!!!

Bought an excellent condition 1942 Tokarev TT-33 from SFRC on April 15th.

Took the first available new member orientation course at the Kingston Range on May 15th.

Took the first available ATT course on June 4th

Just got the call that my ATT paperwork arrived yesterday July 12th!

Won't be able to get to the range until Sunday July 17th.

So that is October 30th 2010 - July 12th 2011 8.5 months from taking the RPAL course to shooting a pistol at the range!!!

A giant WTF!!!! Although I am sure it will be worth every second and hopefully I never have to take another course and wait for anything else like this again!!!

Your big mistake: Not sending in your applications (registered) minus the course results on the 31st of October (when you both knew you had passed your CFRSC course) with a note saying that your results would follow.
Your 28 days would have started on the day that the registered envelope would have been signed for (by Brown). So, probably around the 2nd of November.

But Congratulations are in order

I didn't see this thread and the great information in it until after the fact. That being said as per the op's first batch of information, there is no 28 day waiting period for an upgrade from PAL to RPAL. My wife would have benefitted from that i imagine. But, like I said, I didn't know you could do that at the time.

There is going to be some serious smoke and fire coming out of my Tok this weekend. Just got a case of surplus from Marstar!!!

Just got my RPAL today after a three month wait., have had my non-restricted for a few years now. Noticed that on the back on my RPAL it says non restricted and restricted. does this make my old license now void?

Truly sad state of affairs in your home province.
Looks like the Ont. absurd 'stamping' of tests cost you nearly 2 months. Then the CFC letter re missing info cost you nearly a month.
The worst was the ridiculous Ont. rules re: ranges for restricted firearms that cost you 5 months.

My RPOL to RPAL in Alberta was less than one month from writing test to receiving the card. After the interviews a clerk at the CFC told me my application was moving too fast and wouldn't connect me to Ab CFO so I called back, got transferred and it was approved on the spot.

Updated.

JUNE 04/05 - PAL/RPAL courses completed
JUNE 08 - app mailed in, course results to follow
JUNE 13 - app received at CFP
JUNE 29 - app is now online, app # issued
JUNE 29 - credit card is charged $80
JULY 06 - received validated PAL results from CFO
JULY 08 - received validated RPAL results from CFO*
JULY 11 AM - faxed copies of PAL and RPAL course results to CFP
JULY 11 PM - called CFP to confirm receipt of fax, confirmed, completed phone interview
JULY 11 PM - mailed copies of PAL and RPAL course results to CFP
JULY 12 - References called in for phone interviews
JULY 13 - checked online, licence issued and finally got:

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

All in all, my licence was issued exactly 30 days after my application was received at the CFP. Now, just waiting for the piece of plastic in the mail!

Thanks to the OP calalta for this thread! It has helped tremendously in expediting this entire application process.

*huge crisis was dodged here, pls see my previous posts for details, lol

Gentlemen,

Can you please confirm if the 28 days start from the date of receiving?

Cheers

I spoke with the CFC yesterday and they assured me that the 28 day period starts on the day which they received your application (for me June 20).

She wasn't able to tell me for sure if it had been sent to or approved by the Ontario CFO yet, but she said the status on their system doesn't show "Awaiting completion of 28 day waiting period" unless the CFO has signed off on it. So, based on that, she said it should be finalized by July 18.

Will update with timeline once I get an update.

This was a new application for PAL/RPAL in Ontario. I did the courses last year, but didn't send the app off until June.

Hoping to join a local club and get an LTATT for transporting to and from there. I've read a few things about the Ontario CFO not issuing LTATT, can someone verify that you were able to secure an LTATT in Ontario with a club membership?

Cheers
