Shorten PAL Approval Times

Thanks a lot Shalimar. Valuable advice. Thanks for all the other advice you are giving to everyone.

np at all.. helping newbs is why I bother to post for the most part in here actually.. since someone has to speak up and help educate those new to all of this and most are clueless about the actual law vs the BS spewed by wyatt and his ilk.

Passed the 120 day mark last week. Called BC CFO 3 weeks ago and all I was told is that my PAL/RPAL application was in "Final review" and that they had no idea what kind of time frame it would take to be finalized. I've got no criminal record, no run ins with police (other than the odd noise complaint from 3-5 years ago) I live in a virtually zero crime town but I'm in my mid 20's.. Wondering if this might have anything to do with it taking so long? Also have been hearing rumors that they are d*cking around guys who served in the military. I've had a few family members file their first time non-restricted applications shortly after I filed my first time PAL/RPAL app and they have all received their cards in the mail.

They only contacted one reference and have not asked to speak to me on the phone, so I'm not quite sure what to think of all of this..

It's been 46 days since it's been received for me. Bc CFO has had it for over 2 weeks. They are no help to me wen I phone. Basically say phone at the end of the month and are unwilling to look into it at all. You guys who got yours within 40 dad are very lucky. My application was no different, aced the tests, phone in weekly, but it's just going slow and they have no reason why mines taking longe than others

Depends on whom you are talking to.. and remember.. club membership is NOT mandated by law nor can "policy" force it.. also technically there is no LTATT or STATT.. by law they are both ATT only. It's simple nomenclature commonly utilized to reference the validity period only.

I understand that it is not mandated, but I'm also under the impression that Wyatt or his office will not issue and ATT without a membership. I have also noticed than many of the online stores require club information when purchasing restricted, which would seem to further this impression.

Check out my timeline...
Exactly 28 days from receipt to be approved for PAL & RPAL.
June 21st and 22nd: Took PAL & RPAL course
June 24th: Sent application in via Express Post (guarantee 3 day delivery for June 27th).
June 30th: Late arrival.
June 30th-July24th 6am: Tried to sign into the government website to check the status of my application. Error error error. Just not in the system yet.
July 24th 7am: “Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.”
***NOTE: It shows received on July 2nd, 2014. Thanks Canada Post & Government workers. As if this process isn’t long enough.
I called them up at 9:05am to check if anything was missing. No, there was not. They informed me that my photo is being scanned and they only need one reference check (The provincial CFO might want when it gets there). They told me to have the reference of my choice call in with my application number. Done and done!
12PM: One reference called in and completed the interview (happens to be a man in law enforcement… don’t know if that helps or not).
July 24th: Credit Card Charged $80 “RCMP/GRC 1-800-731-400 MIRAMICHI NB”
July 30: Your application has been processed and your license has been issued.

UPDATE:

Received my license on August 7th! 36 days from receipt to delivery!

EDIT:
I should mention that another person I took the course with, applied on the same day, sent in everything the same way (different envelopes, of course) had the exact same timeline though his references were not law enforcement. Go BC!!

Did you actually call the BC CFO (with extension number) or just the 1-800 number? I'm in a similar boat at 90 days. I called with the extension number and talked to the agent and she told me that my application was just "sitting there" and that she has now assigned it to an officer to review it. Hopefully that gets things going.

Update: today is day 28 since CFC received my RPAL app. I checked today and its says now: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)
28 days from receiving it until approval. I am pretty happy. :D :D Just feel bad for the many guys still waiting and struggling. Hang in there guys. Its worth it!

Update: Today after 34 days total process time I received my RPAL in the mail. Thanks for all you guys advise and help.:dancingbanana:

I haven't read through all 756 pages of this thread, but has anyone had experience with the processing times with the processing times for the non resident 5 year PAL?

We will be arriving next month and have the safety course booked for the 13th September, we will be coming with firearms and will be on a 60 day visitor permit.

Cheers

Another update. Phone the bc CFO again today. They informed me they are currently reviewing applications from April. I was also told that it won't be looked at for at least another 4-6 weeks. Not impressed. Hopefully it goes through before the end of deer season.

Sent mine in Registered April 20th
Received and entered April 25th
Called after 45 days and was told references didn't respond.
2 days later references called in.Was told it went to CFO July 4
Today called, still at CFO July 16

Not sure if there is a way to contact the CFO for Manitoba. Here's to hoping I'll have it in a month or two!

Called again today.....still with CFO. She said I should wait 3-4 weeks and call again. Ughhh. At this rate hunting this year might be out.

Question:
Exactly one month since registered mail received. (Ontario)
status:
Current Status: Your application has been received. It is currently being processed. You have been, or will be contacted either by phone or by mail for additional information. Please check the status again at a later date.

Should I get my references to call in using the application number or do I need to speak with them first and get a specific contact or extension?
Thanks
Dave
